Re:

Rob,

Great tip mate. but I had muted the audio recording setting of my in-dash camera, especially when the kids are in the car LOL emoticon

Yes Drew, I can indeed mute the audio recording and set it to record video only. I think I put a 32GB in mine too. Can't remember to be honest.

Re: Black Box Car Camera Recorder

Hi all,

Read through the 9ish Pages and have a greater understanding as to their various outputs, though still not 100% sure.

It's been 1 full year since the last post. Dashcams seem to an increasing feature in the modern vehicle, just as GPS units once were. I too, am now looking to purchase one for my Exy.

We will be driving the 1,850km back to Brisbane next week so I was thinking of getting one for many reasons as previously listed by other already. Some of the features I would like to have from the dashcam have been listed with more priority at the top:
- 1080p or perhaps HD (like the idea for quality and for possible future road trips)
- ability to delete older unwanted footage while it operating
- 32GB SD card
- G sensor
- motion sensor (when parked)
- easy to withdraw video content and file type (Windows, SD card obviously easy)
Anything else I should be aware of?

Anybody upgraded their old one or know of recent developments on this topic?

I read most people were satisfied with one off eBay for around $100 with most of the features listed above. Anybody recommend a seller, eBay or non-eBay online? Or a local store that has great deals so that I may have it now :-)

I see many of the audio visual type car shops advertising them for Father's Day.

Any direction on this topic would be great.

Cheers,
Ben

Re:

Hi Ben,

I am still using the one I reported on in this thread without any issues and it has been an excellent camera to have on trips.

I don't worry about deleting un-wanted footage, as the camera is set to record in loop mode, which means it will start deleting the oldest footage in the recording folder. You can however choose to lock certain footage from being deleted if you choose to keep that footage.

If size of the unit is not your concern and you want something you can immediately use with a peace of mind and the ability to return should you not be happy with the performance, I would consider buying the one Aldi is selling now as pat of the Father's Day sale.

Hi Ben,

I recently ordered a Mini 0805 from GearBest (US site) for around the $88 mark. Still waiting delivery, but will let you know how it goes once it's up and running.

Cheers,
Mark

Cheers all for your prompt response.

I will have a look through all the info, and let you know once I decide (well once the war and finance dept has approved).

Thanks,
Ben

Re: Black Box Car Camera Recorder

Well after a bad experience I certainly can't recommend the seller storage_specialist on ebay.
First camera died, returned it and got a replacement. Replacement also didn't work properly. So I asked for a refund to which the seller agreed, sent it back, and then he refused to refund it. I had already bought a replacement elsewhere so I didn't want another one.

Re:

There are plenty of other sellers with better quality cameras on eBay. I actually found his prices to be super inflated when compared to others.

Yeah, I too had a bad experience with storage_specialist. I bought 2 dash cams and both failed. I probably got the ones you returned Drew. I was lucky and got my money back.
