T30 Exhaust Replacement - Toyo stainless steel

The NISMO T30 Exhaust emoticon

Mmm that is what the T30 X-Trail should have as stock, not the huge rear silencer box it has got, what was Mr Toi thinking ?

Well in the UK I had not been able to source a NISMO box and its big bucks to buy and import. The NISMO was just going to have to wait till I won the lottery. I had only found one site offering a possible solution, Jetex. Anything else sensible for off road use was far to expensive, you would not want to get it muddy emoticon

While the custom build was appealing I researched on both the UK and the excellent Aus X-Trail forum I could not find an answer for an off the shelf solution that suited my needs....

Searching through photos of various designs online I found pictures of a stainless steel Toyo Sports rear silencer advertised for the petrol T30 on ebay. It did not say where they were made and I had never heard of the brand. I phoned the suppliers in the UK to get measurements and they were not very helpfull, so I sent them an email and they did confirm it should fit the YD 2.2 Series I eventually.

I took the plunge and ordered one....

Stainless exhaust fitted again rear view and side view.

While the actual exit pipe remains in almost the same postion as the OE unlike the NISMO silencer, the side view shows how much extra clearance it gives.

As I said I am not sure where these are made, however at £90.00 including delivery I figure it is not a bad price. Just be aware that Toyosports communication is bad, they don't reply to emails quickly.

I will give some feedback on this mod when it has been running for a little while.

Not really much difference there at all, except one is shiny and the other one is not emoticon

The actual position of the factory monster muffler is wrong rather than the size of it.

Did the company tell you what are the internals of the new muffler are made of?

Hi Jalal

Not sure of internals, but Toyo are known for their SS exhaust systems. I will ask but they do not speak gooood english it seems emoticon

The OE measures 21 1/2" long by 13 1/2" wide (front to back) by 7 1/2" deep.
The Toyo exhaust measures 21 1/2" long by 10 1/4" wide by 5 3/4" deep.

Yes have to agree badly positioned, but still oversized, my V8 had a smaller stock emoticon Not a massive difference in size, however as can be seen it is enough to give that extra clearance with no stone catcher.

On previous off roaders I have always made sure the exhaust tip was well out of harms way. A little harder to do with the X-Trail due to the design. This was the result. Used shorter hanger bushes on inside and rear exhaust hangers, and trimmed up out let.

The exhaust sits squarer and pulls the top face in to line with where the old face was emoticon

Further trimming back of the exit pipe would mean going past the first weld to form a "perfect" departure angle, well as good as it is going to get on stock suspension and tyres.
