I spoke to a couple of the instructors from the 4WD Association and they agree it is a dry weather only track in fact the last DTU training trip I was on was cancelled after the quarry hill climb due to poor conditions. However, the Navara did make it to the top of the quarry hill even though it was hard to pick a line when its raining so hard you can't see past the bonnet.nondisclosed_email@example.com (rescue1)Sun, 29 Jul 2012 21:50:43 +0000 Re: Expressions of Interest. Tony might be able to tell us otherwise as interest has been directed to him. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Mon, 09 Jul 2012 14:27:20 +0000 Re: Expressions of Interest. The section after the first long crossing is in worse condition than the video shows but the rest is fairly similar. It did leave out a couple of the rockier sections though..nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Mon, 09 Jul 2012 07:30:10 +0000 Re: Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064109,from=rss#post2064109https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064109,from=rss#post2064109quote:cooch t31 wrote: A good idea of track conditions would be to watch the video that Dave posted on page 2 of this thread. That's what I was going to suggest as well and you can pretty much tell straight away that this track is off-limits for a standard exy and I reckon even a modified one would struggle through it unless piloted by an experienced driver.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Mon, 09 Jul 2012 06:11:31 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064108,from=rss#post2064108https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064108,from=rss#post2064108I don't have any, sorry Kev. There were no real deep ruts or large rocks that an X Trail wouldn't make through as such rather than long climbs of jaggered rocks sticking out of the main tracks and picking lines through the bush on uphill climbs. A good idea of track conditions would be to watch the video that Dave posted on page 2 of this thread. nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Mon, 09 Jul 2012 06:09:19 +0000 Re: Expressions of Interest. I would like to see more pics of the tougher sections, even if they don't show an Xtrail so that others can get a better feel for the track.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 09 Jul 2012 00:11:20 +0000 Re: Expressions of Interest. A wet track would just make picking the perfect line too difficult. Along the same thought, experience is super important. If you are not confident picking your own line through difficult sections then don't bother with this track until you have more experience. It's just not the sort of track where someone can stand and guide you through difficult sections.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Sun, 08 Jul 2012 17:49:30 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064070,from=rss#post2064070https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064070,from=rss#post2064070As Todd said, it is a difficult track and yes I did take a few pics but looking at them doesn't justify how it was. We found track conditions as dry which I thought was a lot easier than when I did it a few weeks ago when it was wet. We also did a few of the "harder" side tracks and was impressed that Todd's Xy got through them with little difficulty. We came to the conclusion that an X Trail can make it if, It has a lift kit, Has A/T tyres, Has full bash plate set, Most of all off road experience. This is no place for standard X Trail on factory tyres, and definitely not for beginners. Todd also mentioned that a CVT or auto transmission is more suited for the constant climbing and descents that require constant RPM. All in all it was a great day with no damage, good weather and great company. Mick stuck on a harder side track, a couple of goes at it later and he got up. We all had a go at this and got up but Todd never attempted it. nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Sun, 08 Jul 2012 17:25:55 +0000 Re: Expressions of Interest. This is a very difficult track. It's hard section followed by hard section. No easy fire trails here. Very challenging and great fun. Happy to report I made it successfully. Safe to say this is not standard Xtrail territory. Anything with less mods than me would come out of here with damage or possibly not come out at all. I think Tony took some photos so hopefully he can shed some more light on the track conditions.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Toddyh03)Sun, 08 Jul 2012 17:11:58 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064059,from=rss#post2064059https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2064059,from=rss#post2064059Tomorrow (Sunday) is the reccy trip that Todd and I will be going on. I hope if for some reason if it's not X trail friendly that people don't get too upset. If the trip goes ahead it would have to be on a Saturday as I think Sunday would be the day most guys go there. The last time I went on Saturday, we never saw a single 4WD on the track. nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Sun, 01 Jul 2012 07:43:50 +0000 Re: Expressions of Interest.
