Re: Caves to Caves Forum Trip 2012

Dave I'd appreciate any extra photos/videos. So far I don't think there is any evidence that I was actually out in front.

Re:

I think the only safe to do this trip without the help of Navaras and electric winch would be to invest in a hand winch, slow but it would work.

Re: Caves to Caves Forum Trip 2012

A hand winch would definitely do the job Peter. I think if we had a car in front of Dave a gentle tow would have got him up as well. That's pretty much the exact situation I want a tow bar mount winch for.

Now thats a clever idea, although a hand winch still gives you the versatility of being able to use it front or back.

Re: Caves to Caves Forum Trip 2012

Nice thought but we ruled out Maxxtraxx pretty quickly as they would have just slipped away as the wheels spun on them. Could have been a possibility if we dug them into the ground but no guarantees that would have worked.

Re:

If you had large tent type pegs you could have secured the maxtrax that way to see if they worked.
I think they recommend doing that actually.

Re:

The ground wasn't level enough for Maxtrax, it was uneven and there were rocks sticking out.
They would have been spat out the back and could have injured someone.

The other way we could have done it without a winch is to push the car sideways and then back down the hill to give it another go.

Todd,
There is video footage on the back of Daniels Nav when we were crossing the Kowmung, I think you wre behind him then.

Dave,
You may as well post your pics, there could be a few good ones amongst them.

Yeah Tony I think the camera was Peter's brother in laws. Hopefully he can get a hold of those videos.
re: Maxxtraxx thats why I said they would have to have been dug in. To make sure they couldn't spit out the back. But like I said no guarantee that would have worked even then.
