Paint Protection

I asked the salesman about paint protection when I bought the xtrail and he told me it was a waist of money.
Anyone on here get it ? It's it worthwhile getting it done being a new car ?

That's one honest salesman. It is indeed a waste of money!

Oxymoron time in car sales.

But yes Jalal is very correct there. Paint protection is a big waste of money.

Re:

I was at the Nissan headquarters just before picking my brand new T31 last June and I asked them about this paint protection, their answer was...."Dealers have to make money somehow and its not all coming from car sales!"

The other money waster is the offer to have cars which already have privacy glass windows....tinted!! Watch-out for that one too emoticon

Re:

Should make a list of the not needed/unwanted extras the dealer will try to talk new buyer into getting.
Just to make the untutored more aware and others a nice reminder.
Some of us maybe a little more car savy than others, but we can have a bad day when we see something we want.

Might even be worth a sticky post once it gets going.

Eek, I think I got stung.

I got the paint protection with a bunch of other stuff as part of some club thing. Where scratches, dints and other things we're all covered. I figured that the X-Trail is going to live in two spots. My big carport (holds about 4 large cars) and my wife's workplace where she her parking spot is under a big tree.

Every day I'd come home to see her (old) car turn from red to white/grey/black from all the bird poo.

From what I was told, the paint protection can stop bird poo from eroding into the paint, this true?

Yes to a point it all depends on how long you leave the bird poo on the car.
If I see a bad bird dodo I just hose it off straight away.
I have never had issues with paint.
They tried to sell me that saying cause I live in the mountains the tree sap will eat muy paintwork.
To this day I have never had sap land on the car.

I think the paint protection is a waste of money, sorry.

Sweet thanks for the feedback.
I just hope the other scratch/dint stuff that came with it is worth something, otherwise I've lost about $2k emoticon lol

Re: Paint Protection

I had it on my wife's first car.

When we got married the had the usual paper confetti, etc thrown all over the car. The paintwork got stained by the confetti. Dad washed and polished the marks out while we were on our honeymoon oblivious to the fact we had 'protection'

Haven't had it on any car since!

The best thing you can do is wash your car regularly and give it a good quality polish maybe once a year. I use a Meguiar's two-step process. It takes a while but the results are *well* worth it!

Re: Paint Protection

Thanks for the tip.

I figure that I'll set aside time each weekend to cleaning the car inside & out. I'm normally fairly lazy or really busy but hopefully get into the routine of doing that.

Oh well, next time I'll make sure not to take it.
