Re: DRLs (Daytime Running Lights)

That's what I thought Tomkazz,

After numerous on-line searches and local enquiries the fog/DRL combo isn't as easy as I first thought. There are some available from Britain, but they'd cost over $300 delivered, still cheaper than a single $300 genuine Nissan one I guess!!! There are also others, including on Aliexpress, but most of them seem to have a moulded fitting bracket which won't fit the sexy and would require some re-wiring. That's what I like about the Aliexpress ones they're plug and use. If I can get what I want I would be prepared to pay around $150, so I'll see if I can find the Bling Lights store.

At the moment though I'm considering getting the Aliexpress fog lights, but in yellow and then fitting separate halo DRLs, which stick to the outside of the foglight.

Re: DRLs (Daytime Running Lights)

funny you should mention this Whip.

It is something i was looking at as well.

I was wondering how waterproof these halo rings actually are.

I have never ordered these before but at around $20/set it may be worth buying a set to play with.

Only down side I see is that at $20 I wouldn't be buying a very good quality set.

on a small side note, I did notice the foggies I'm using had the glass front glued on last, so removal of these would be relatively easy. Finding a halo to fit would be the next problem.

I am currently waiting on a set of led strips Jalal has on his Exy, will install these and see if the halo will be required.

Is it possible to have too many Lights?

In regards to DRLs...yes.
Check the ADRs about them...very strict placement, brightness and operating laws.

Re: DRLs (Daytime Running Lights)

Thanks Kev.

I'll need to do some study on this topic regarding SA laws and reg's.

Will post my findings soon enough...

If I have enough time I will check the other states/territories as well.

cheers,
Tom

Re:

Since the parking lights on my t31 st looks like a set of L shape DRL. Just wondering if it is possible to make them real DRL?
Can i just rewire and put a few relays so the front parking lights turn on when the engine is on and switch off one of the 2 bulbs when the indicators are on?

Re: DRLs (Daytime Running Lights)

Jono,
The simple answer is yes.
This does however have to be planned carefully.

I have read through the ADR laws very carefully and noted one important rule.

“DRL lights must turn off when you select lights on” this means your DRLs turn off once you select parkers on.

This is not difficult to setup but takes time, and requires fairly basic knowledge of relay switches.

Connecting it in a way that it turns off with indicator on (like the jeep) requires more advanced knowledge of electronics.

Im most cases it isn't a DIY job.

ATM i have some 10w LEDS in there that do the job without blinding other drivers at night.

Currently working on a relay to switch off my foggies when parkers are selected to comply with the ADR.

Cheers,
Tom

Guys,
Just wanted to add from my experience today.
While driving around (at night) I noticed the T32 Exy's cruising around with their DRL's on and low beam on as well.
Could a T32 owner please confirm for me this is possible.
I am currently waiting on a call back from my local compliance center, whether the ADR's I have read are out of date.

Cheers again,
Tom

Thanks Tom,

Not sure about the T32 but in a lot of other cars, the DRL and parkers share the same lights but with different strength of light. So when the parkers are switched on, the DRL weakens and becomes parkers. Im not sure if this is the case for the T32.

regards
Jono

On the T32 the DRL are on when the lights are off. When parker is selected the DRL dim and become the parking lights.

Cheers

John

Re:

Yep John, Nissan got the DRLs working nicely on the T32 for sure and they do stand out and look awesome when integrated as part of the headlight.
