Re: Removing Traction Control?

I've played around with this a lot in sand and my conclusion is:
Press ESP off just once (not 10 seconds etc) and brakes won't come on at all as car slews around through sand/ruts etc. That is press once to turn ESP off and car is always great in sand.

Press for 10 seconds ???????? Nothing changes; ESP is just off!!

If I leave ESP on when in sand or mud, brakes come on, as slip light appears and I get bogged.

Remember, ESP only stays off for current session. Restart car and you need to switch it off again if in sand.

Remember to switch ESP back on when back at road speeds.

Re: Removing Traction Control?

I guess so!!! maybe Nissan's $millions spent developing the systems (or whoever did) perhaps knew a little about what they were doing. The car is actually quite complex with some 50 sensors (auto) or >100 (manual) from memory and from what a mechanic told me!

Just FYI. I tried all the button pushing etc and the best thing to do was to remove the ABS fuse. (ONLY WHEN ON SAND, Not on roads!!)

Re:

Has anyone actually tried a fuse-pull with the T31? I'd set myself on trying it today out at Redhead, but once I opened the fuse box, I'm faced with this...

Image

So do I remove the single abs/esp fuse marked SOL (on i'ts own, up the top) or the one multi-fuse below it, marked MTR? (I've no idea what F/L 30A, H/L Wash or F/L 60A EPS are for) I'm not even remotely electrical-minded, so this is way beyond me. Keen to try it out so if anyone could help, I could legitimately add to this discussion later today.

Re:

F/L could be fog lamp.
H/L Wash is the squirter for headlight washing (Europe)
Not sure about EPS, could be the fuse for ESP as the top one is labelled as a solenoid.

Re: Removing Traction Control?

F/L is Fusible Link...like a fuse but heavier current capacity.
H/L is HeadLight

Re: Removing Traction Control?

ESP Extra Sensory Perception - the X-Trail knows what to do before you do - he he emoticon

seriously . . .

Perhaps these are the meanings:
F/L Fusible Link (Higher rated than the fuses below which are not labelled F/L)
ESP SOL - Stability Control Solenoid
ABS SOL- Antilock Brake Solenoid
ESP MTR - Stability Control Motor (electric motor that generates the 20,000psi to operate the system!!)
ABS MTR - Antilock Brake Motor ( . . . . . . Ditto . . . . Probably same motor driven by separate system. . .)

You MAY need to KNOW what you are doing before you fiddle with these things - your car may not pass the "smoke test" otherwise (let the magic smoke out of electronics and they are no longer happy).

Although what did Forest Gump say about that box of chocolates??

You never know what you get.

Did he actually see that mysterious wisp of blue vapour?

Was it there?

There seems to be no repeatable experiment in this thread.

Might be time to actually measure some side by side traction tests with Traction control allegedly switched on and switched off.... though there seems to be no firm opinion as to what is on or what is off.

So therefore, the X-Trail traction control is really Schrodingers cat ?

Sand seems to be the enemy:- Traction is the question:- Two ways to do it.

How hard is it to run that experiment?
