Re: genuin Spark plugs that last forever?
Like Ironbark, I do all of the servicing of our vehicles (except one) for past 35 years due to many bad experiences with mechanics. I do use them on occassion for some repairs or computer fault finding. The benefit of the money saved is that I do not hesitate to use genuine or best quality parts, best oils, filters etc. so long as the price is not outrageous and end up with a car that will last longer e.g. had the exy auto-trans serviced and mechanic replaced the gasket with a cork one. It leaked a few days later, a few drips then a small puddle a few weeks later. Replaced it with Genuine Nissan and no more leaks. Exact same experience with previous mitsubishi's, cork = leak, genuine = no leak. Had the head gasket done 7 months ago by mechanic, gasket kit was non-genuine, never had a leak from rocker cover and engine was remarkably clean prior to this despite being 9 years old. Almost immediately started leaking, and now the whole engine needs to be pressure washed as it is covered in oil due to rocker cover gasket. Have new genuine one to go in. (On a side note, always ring around for prices, genuine Nissan head gasket set was the same price as the Repco equivalent when I checked last year.)
And another e.g., replaced sigma rear muffler after 6 years from new with Lukey (good brand isn't it?). Like clockwork, they needed replacing at 2 years. After the 4th one, replaced with genuine Mitsub. kept car for another 5 years but never had to replace muffler again. Not all aftermarket is bad though as had a magna that had timing chain clatter from 3 sets of genuine timing chain / guides but no further problem when aftermarket was fitted.
Don't get me started on brakes....Bendix are the best, or at least buy genuine. You want these to work all the time, so for safety's sake pay the little bit extra. Also they have a metal foldover on the side of the pads. As the pads wear down, the foldover touches the rotors and give a squeal when you brake letting you know that the pads will need replacing. No more damaged rotors.
As for spark plugs, I usually don't mind replacing them regularly as they are so cheap. (Dealer wanted $800 2 years ago to replace 8 plugs in our other car, and that hurts). At very least check them, reset gap if needed and keep an eye on any fuel consumption increase.
Sorry to ramble, have many experiences and could easily go on and on. Maybe later.

Re:
A lot of existing topics are covered in your reply Jack, so rather than lumping it all in one post, share your experience in the existing corresponding threads to get better exposure and to educate as many self-servicing owners as possible. It also makes finding and searching of information for existing and future owners much easier.
This topic is about spark plugs, so am not sure how anyone (apart from Dave ) would be able to benefit from your experience with brake pads, mufflers and leaking head gaskest...etc in this thread.
Please take the time to do a search on the forum and contribute your knowledge and experiences in existing and relevant topics. Thanks.

Re:
Please add the xtrail year and model into your signature, so we know which one you're talking about mate. With 3 generation of xtrails to discuss on the forum, such information is now a complete must before asking any type of question. Thanks

Re:
Thanks mate.
For the QR20DE, the NGK Laser Platinum spark plugs are the LFR5AP-11 / 4775
Honestly though, NGK Iridium will be more than enough for the job.
