Hail damage

This is mainly for our Vic friends,I hope no one got their x-trail damaged in the hails storms we had Christmas day,we got slight damage to ours with about 20 dints in the roof and bonnet,it goes in for assessment early Jan.I was impressed the way the x-trail stood up to the hail stones which were the size of tennis balls at times.Saying that there are a lot of people a lot worse off than us with cars written off and houses flooded.

Re: Hail damage

Hi steve and Realene,

The hail damage thing is annoying but it can easily be fixed, we had some back in March 2010 when the storms hit the Eastern suburbs and the xtrail stood up pretty well amongst those conditions. The repairers where ours got done brought in teams from the USA who deal with these type of repairs frequently. The car came up a treat and we were happy with the results.

Re: Hail damage

Thanks for that Anthony,After washing our xtrail and having another good look the damage does not look as bad as first thought, you really have to look hard to see the dints so I probably wont bother to get it fixed,i will still take it down for assessment just so the insurance company knows about it.
Cheers Steve

Re: Hail damage

Hi Steve,
If the dents are that small then the paint won't be stretched to a cracking point and they should easily be repaired by "paintless dent removal" which uses an electromagnet to pull the bottom of the dent back up to flat again. I would have the repairer get it done rather than leave it, even if they want you to pay the excess as then your resale value will be kept intact.

Re: Hail damage

Hail damage can be invisible! You need to have the car inspected by a reputable Crash Repairer.

The clear coat and underlying paint can be damaged but not appear so to the naked untrained eye and if not corrected within a reasonable period can lead to big problems later.

It's important to examine the paint surface for micro-cracks.

Given all that don't be too paranoid. Modern car finishes are more durable than ever.

Steve&Raelene

My Wife had her brand new 2 week old Fiesta severely damaged in the March 2010 Melbourne Hail storm. It was repaired by the Paintless Dent Removal method.

The results were amazing..Looked like it came straight from the showroom..I was gobsmacked at the result.

Goodluck with your Xtrail Repair

Re:

Hi Guys,

My heart sank last night when I was visiting my brother in law in Picnic Point and thunder & lightning started and was followed by heavy rain and then....hail emoticon

It started with really small hail at first, so we stood outside and I thought, the Red Bull can take it but then intensified so much that I could actually feel the hail crystals and their size got bigger and bigger and I could hear the hail pounding the bonnet and roof of the exy....I thought this was it, so went back inside and told my wife that looks like the Red Bull has taken a beating. Lucky the hail didn't last long, so we drove back home and I couldn't sleep the night thinking about the damage it would have caused to the car.

Woke-up this morning to check it all out and was pleasantly surprised to find-out that there wasn't a single dent on the car emoticon

That was close indeed.

Wow lucky Jalal, it did come down heavy in some areas. I hate it when it hails.
I always think the worst with the cars even if its small.
