Cleaning bugs off radiator

Does anyone know how clean the bugs off the top part of the radiator without taking anything apart? Managed to get most of the other bugs off but that line of bugs in the top part of the radiator is annoying the heck out of me. emoticon

It's hard to see in the picture but there's a line of bugs. Haven't got a clearer picture of it.

BTW never drive on the South Coast Hwy between Albany and Esperance, WA unless you're desperate. Got absolute bugged and it's the worse ever!

Re:

Best thing to do is just blast them off with a hose.
Even better, put some radiator protection on your Xy and then they are all on the outside.

Re: Cleaning bugs off radiator

Remove the top grill - it's easy. Remove the button fixings at top and to release the bottom reach your hand in to ease the four "tongues" out of their slots by lifting them slightly. (you don't need to remove the button fixing in the middle at the bottom of the grill).

You can then get at the top of the radiator with a vacuum or whatever.

While the grill is off, attach metal flywire to the rear of the grill with silicone and the odd cable-tie, screws, clips, wire etc - you will then never have to clean that area again emoticon

Re:

I've just come back from driving down that south coast between Albany and Esperence, and I don't think the problem there is as bad as further North in the wheatbelt country... I hit a lot of locusts and made quite a mess of the radiator and intercooler. Quickest way to clean them off was to use a pressure washer - I managed to get both quite clean quickly. Just be very careful what attachment/power you use - use too much and you will bend the fragile fins.

Re: Cleaning bugs off radiator

Apparently any pressure over about 2,000psi will damage the clear coat as well.

Locusts are nasty in that if you don't get them off the paintwork within about a day, you'll have a permanent yellow stain.

When we had it bad here in SA I would easily wash them off straight away with warm soapy water.

Every car I've ever had I've made sure there was some permanently mounted fly-wire at least in front of radiator and behind the grill. Saved so much hassle keeping radiators bug and fly free and cooling properly.

Re: Cleaning bugs off radiator

Hi all.
Look under "radiator protection" posts in the Int and Ext mods thread for various means of installing mesh.
Just back from Sth West Rocks and found it very easy to remove the bugs etc from the mesh I mounted on outside of bumper cavities recently.

cheers
