Bjelkie Peterson Dam Meet Up, SEQ, February 2012
Bjelkie Peterson Dam Meet Up, February 19th!
*
Hi to All,
A couple of weeks ago, we did a trip to Bjelkie Peterson Dam with our Solitaire and it occurred to me this would make an ideal place for a South East Queensland meet up. As it is under control of SunWater Qld, it is DOG FRIENDLY. With our Xmas meet up later this month and Christmas, New Year, The Australia Day weekend all approaching, I was thinking one Sunday in February, as during long weekends it can get fairly busy. The date we have chosen is the 19th February. This is a great opportunity for those in South East Queensland to meet other members without a lot of travel.
Getting there. As we are North of Brisbane it takes about 2 and a half to three hours to get there. Take the D'Aguilar Hwy to Nanango, then straight ahead on the Burnett Hwy for approximately 43 Klm to the turn off. You pass through Moffatdale then on to Bjelkie. If you keep going, you'll end up at Murgon. People in Brisbane could add about half and hour to this time. Our newest member at Yarraman is already three quarters of the way there.
Those on the Southside, Browns Plains, Greenbank, Mansfield could go via Ipswich, Fernvale, Esk on the Brisbane Valley Hwy which joins the D'Aguilar Hwy north of Kilcoy. Travelling time is about the same.
As I know we have number of members on the North Coast, you can go via Gympie to Kilkivan, onto Goomeri and down the Burnett Hwy to the turn off.
The BBQ area has a large car park area, which was used by the MG car club the day we were there. There is also electric BBQ's, and a well kept toilet block. As the dam is currently 100 per cent, it is a gentle slope into the water, making it ideal for both dogs and kids alike.
......
This is only a meet up with a BBQ lunch and does not involve any offroading at all. For those who like a drop of wine, you can visit many of the cellars in the district, as you are in the middle of some of the best wineries in Queensland, including Clovely Estate.
The dam also has a full caravan park with cabins, and villas for those who wish to stay overnight. It is called the Yallakool Tourist Park. Dogs are not allowed in cabins or villas of course, but allowed in the caravan park. Best check with the park managers on an individual basis.

Re: Bjelkie Peterson Dam Meet Up, SEQ, February 19th 2012
Hi Guys,
I was informed yesterday that we have to work the weekend of the 25 th and 16 th. Given most who have responded are fairly agreeable to the dates listed, I am choosing the 19th as the one day for this trip. With some of the new members in the SEQ region, I still hopeful we can get the numbers to make it happen. With only one target date, this may help the process. Could I ask that those of you who had registered earlier, please let us know if you are still able to make the 19 th.
Regards
John
