Mate, clever idea using the cable ties on the chain so it doesn't 'skip' a tooth.

Re:

Well, better to be cautious then to start it up with the timing chain skipping over teeth emoticon

The description about the hydraulic tensioner is useful to others considering doing a rebuild too. Is there any other tips you can think of while your waiting for parts?

Hang in there be patient, will all be worth it in the end!

Re: T30 ti 02 5spd engine removal,stripdown and reassembly - Lots of pics -

Well, while im waiting ill have to take off all the old timing gear which will take a bit of time as ive gotta clean off all the gasket material. emoticon

I noticed that the timing chain tensioner has a small oil hole and mesh strainer on the back. Mine looked pretty dirty and there is some scoring on the piston Lug. Im wondering if this could have something to do with the possibility of these things blocking up and failing over time.

IMO I think these tensioners ARE serviceable as you can remove them and clean the oil galleries and inspect the lug and spring for wear. Should be in the 100,000 Service. Its really not that hard to take out when the engines is in.(ive done it) and even if sex fingers mechanic drops a bolt in the front cover it can be easily found by removing the oil pan cover.

The Injectors that ive freshened up are still playin on my mind. In my DIY injector thread I didnt actually get them to electronically pulse and im worried they could still be a little blocked.

So I figured out how to do it from our geek friends at Jaycar. All for under 10bucks.. plus your carby spray and battery. yay.

Im about to update the Injector thread to show how I did it..

Maybe one tip tho. Im Not gonna buy the gasket glue(RTV) in the flimsy metal tube anymore. Everytime I use it the container it splits and things get messy and money wasted. Im going to use a caulking gun and hard tube next time.

Oooh and another.. Take every single bolt that comes out of the engine and have them acid dipped as itll save you heaps of time when it comes to reassemble.

Thanks Scott for all your pics. I skimmed the details as they were way beyond me, but I now have a better idea of what's in my exy's engine. I am now staying tuned too.

Re: T30 ti 02 5spd engine removal,stripdown and reassembly - Lots of pics -

Hi. Ive buttoned up the engine and fairly happy with it all. Im still nervous about the timing chain as i would have really liked to turned the engine by hand while fully assembled, Oh well, everything seems to move smoothly etc.

Ive started putting the clutch on today and found some suitable 'drifts' (pvc pipe) at Bunnings for the Installation of the Gearbox and Transfer Seals.
Ive had to get the engine off the stand and onto the hoist. This took a bit of stuffin round. I needed to somehow 'lock' the flywheel so the Torx bolts could be torqued. Easier said than done. I ended up using a few bolts and a 13mm spanner to hold it still.

I cant do much more until I get a clutch plate alignment tool to center and hold in place.Of course Supercheap or Repco didnt have one on a sunday arvo. emoticon
Some pics to date;

Nearly there!!!

Oh yeah.. anyone got any suggestions for a running in oil (if it runs..lol) which doesnt involve buying Penrite $85 per 5 litre run-in oil? I was thinking 15-40 mineral oil for first few changes, then penrite oil for next 1000ks or so.

Re:

A mono grade oil is usually used to run an engine in, but I would check with someone in the know first.

Re:

Nearly there mate.
Sometimes you can use the end of a broomstick to line up the clutch and then a screwdriver to align any teeth.
You can also go to a clutch specialist and they will sometimes loan you an aligner.
