Tyre test.
I recently picked up an issue of Australian 4wd Action which contained an all terrain tyre test with 9 of the most common brands. Of this group on show 4 of them are available in sizes for the Xtrail,
These include: BF Goodrich - All terrain
: Yokohama - Geolander AT/s
: Pirelli - Scorpian AT
: Bridgestone - Dueler AT
All tyres were tested in a variety of conditions including sand, gravel, mud, hill climb and decent, stopping distance and noise.
It's probably easy to summarise them in terms of Terrain category:
SAND :
- best in order were Yokohama, Bridgestone followed by the other two with an equal rating.
GRAVEL :
- The Pirelli and Yokohama were equal best followed by Bridgestone and BFGoodrich a little further back.
MUD :
- Same results as for gravel.
HILL CLIMB AND DESCENT:
- Yokohama was top in this category followed closely second by Pirelli and Bridgestone on equal points. BFGoodrich was average.
NOISE:
- In order of quietest was Pirelli, Bridestone, BFGoodrich and then Yokohama. Only a matter of 0.5 dB seperated the group so nothing too bad here.
STOPPING DISTANCE:
-BFGoodrich was the best followed by Yokohama, Pirelli and Bridgstone.
So of our group here Pirelli just won over Yokohama, BFGoodrich score was a little further back but still in the middle of the pack while the Bridgestones rated 6th out of the 9.
In terms of performance and value for money it's the Yokohama's.
