Factory towbar (T30): Loose tongue/No anti rattle bolt

Hi all,

I've just had a factory towbwar installed on my 2006 T30 ST-S.

Is it meant to have an anti rattle/vibration bolt?

My last 2 vehicles (NM Pajero & Mazda 3) both had those bolts. The X-Trail doesn't. In fact, there isn't even a hole/thread which can be used for that purpose. As you can imagine, the tongue is a little loose. All very odd. I guess I could try to make something by drillling a hole in the side of the unit. In fact, that might be the best/easiest option. Having said that, should't it be part of the standard set-up?

I feel like I might be missing something here - Have others had a similar experience?

Cheers,

John

Re: Factory towbar (T30): Loose tongue/No anti rattle bolt

Hi John.
Well the 2010 T31 series 2 Exy certainly has an abti rattle bold underneath bottom of hitch. It was fitted by Nissan when I purchased the vehicle but I only found the anti rattle bolt when I tried to remove the tongue when I got home and it wouldn't budge.
You mentioned "factory fitterd" so I can't understand why some sort of anti rattle device was not provided.
If you arranged for the towbar fit then I would take it back and request a rectification.

cheers

Re:

Hi John,

I had a genuine Nissan towbar in my T30 and there was no anti rattle bolt and yes, the towbar tongue was loose. All you have to do is wrap around around one or two layers of duct tape around it and it'll be fine.

If your handy with the electric drill you can drill and tap a suitable sized thread for a bolt. I used a fine threaded bolt due to thin section of square hitch (around 8mm from memory). A locking nut ensures the bolt shouldn't come loose.
