costly service

I had 20,000Km service done 7 July. I was charged $386.65 by Nissan dealership. It sounded a lot so when I got home I looked up capped price service to find the charge was listed as $285.75. I rang and spoke to service manager who tried to tell me they do extra work to which I stated that I only booked in for a 20,000km service and nothing else and that if they NEEDED to do extra they should have called me and discussed. He advised they rotated wheels and balanced tyres etc.
I told him I was not happy and he asked me what I wanted him to do. I said I wanted $100.90 off 30,000km sevice and to state that on computer.
He told me I would get a call from Nissan asking about my Nissan experience and I was to explain my issue & refer caller to him and that should resolve the issue.
I AM STILL WAITING THAT CALL. I will ring Nissan myself Monday afternoon if no call received.
To make matters worse, service log book states "if necessary rotate & balance wheels"

Re:

The capped price servicing is a little miss leading, as I was told by my Nissan dealer, it only covers a basic oil and filter change, ans a quick inspection, thats it.
If anything else has to be done, which always is the case, then they can charge extra.
Thats what I've been told anyway.

Re: costly service

Hi Tony
See extracts from NISSAN website below.......they didn't get my approval for extra work and I will demand my $100.90 discount on 30,000Km service. I am sick of car dealerships playing around with words and

Extract From NISSAN capped price charter
Why do Service costs change from Service to Service?
Each Scheduled Service is different; but all are equally important to make sure your Nissan keeps running smoothly and reliably. For some Scheduled Services, additional parts have to be replaced and a longer period of time is spent by technicians to complete the service. This means that the capped price of your Scheduled Service may vary from one Scheduled Service to the next. Your service advisor will explain which services will be more expensive and why, but each of these Scheduled Services will come with the assurance of a capped price.

and

Not all Services are the same...
Everyone drives their Nissan differently - from stop start driving in city traffic, to driving off-road through the bush. Therefore, your service requirements may vary from the Scheduled Service outlined in your Owner's Handbook. If any additional work is required (over and above the Capped Price, Scheduled Service) your Service Advisor will seek your prior approval to perform such additional work.

From Nissan capped price terms and conditions
11. Your authorised Nissan Dealer will advise if any such additional items require attention prior to the works being undertaken. Your consent will be requested before your authorised Nissan Dealer completes those additional works.

Re:

I know what you mean Dave.
Nissan machined my discs withgout even informing me that they were going to do it.
I had to get them done sooner or later but thats not the point.
Seems to me that they charge for whatever they think needs doing.

Re:

Thats dodgy.

Before i book a service i simply call and ask for a quote. I also ask WHAT is involved and what MAY be needed. If i like the price I'll book. When i drop the car off i confirm the price and tell them "If anything else needs to be done just give me a call before."
I make it clear that they are free to inform me of anything that may need doing, but they are not to go ahead with any work without my express consent.

Id dig my heels in over this. Call the garage back Monday, tell them this is bullshit. They have breached terms found in the 'NISSAN capped price charter', by NOT "[advising] if any such additional items require attention prior to the works being undertaken."
As such you are demanding a refund for any unauthorised work (you should have an itemised receipt) to the total of $100. You would need a refund cheque by close of business Friday or a formal complaint will be made to DOCEP (and ACCC if necessary), and they can handle it from there.

If more people do that, garages will quickly learn they can't just do what they like and charge what they want without prior, explicit authorisation.

Lastly: "This means that the capped price of your Scheduled Service may vary from one Scheduled Service to the next"
And then the left side of the brain turned to the right side and said "its dark in here, and we may die"

Re:

Dave,

Nissan Australia clearly stated that you will NOT pay more than the capped service price for any standard service and since you have dropped your car and haven't asked for anything extra to be done, they have NO right to do any extra work without checking with you first and getting approval from you to a go a head.

Make a post on the Nissan Australia Facebook page if this doesn't get resolved because this dealer needs to be educated on how to apply the capped service charges.

Re: costly service

After queries last Friday at dealership and again yesterday to Nissan head office I finally received a call this afternoon from the dealership group and again explained my dissatisfaction with the $100.90 extra charge on my 20,000km service compared to the advertised capped price charge.....especially since I did not authorise any extra work and I was never contacted to authorise any extra work.

To cut a long story (saga) short, and after a return phone call from Hayley who "took ownership" of my concerns I have been officially advised that $100.90 will be deducted from my next 30.000km service and also their computer records now state a "warning" that any extra work must be authorised by me. This authorisation should be a standard requirement as outlined in Nissan's charter and terms and conditions.

So, let's see what eventuates at my next 30,000km service when I will clearly state that I want the capped price charge applied and that every item in the service manual applicable to a 30,000km service for my model vehicle must be recorded on the service report Tax Invoice they present to me after the service completed. This time I will go prepared knowing what the cost is and what the service manual requires.

stay tuned approx 9823km from now.

cheers

Re:

Id be less than happy with that.

a) It locks you into ANOTHER service with them.

b) It puts the onus on you to let them know at the next service, and you can bet when that happens they won't be able to "find anything on their system."

Call back, tell them you've changed your mind and would like a refund.5
