Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Thanks Kai for the praise.
Glad to see the work I and others did a couple of years ago is still useful.
Rightfully said I only approached it from the shortest path to get bling and not all the options of dealing with Head units and more complex installs.

I may revisit my install now that a few others have added details too.

BTW to those that keep asking about safety and the SRS....two years no issues, still got my front teeth. If you don't unplug that yellow one you won't have a problem.

Good luck,
 Andrew

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Tarik,

It is near impossible to set of the air bad in the steering, even if you happen to unplug it.

They are made to be able to to replace them if required.

If you follow the instructions there should be no issue.

Cheers,
Tom

Mine has the lights connected. I think that Cooch T31 had a bad wire or something else is done with his car, because there is no current in that pink wire with outh key in IGN.

Re:

Hi all,

I've read through most of the posts but can't for the life of me find where everyone figured out how to have the steering control lights come on with parking lights!

Have managed to hook it up to ignition (pink), could anyone shed some light?

Cheers

Just completed the steering wheel lights mod, how on earth did someone at the factory decide to leave it unconnected in the first place... emoticon

Re: How to light up the steering controls & gear selector (T31 X-Trail)

Hi.

Resurrecting this thread, since its all new to me...

I pulled mine apart, followed all the directions, until I saw that there is no vacant spot next to that wire in the block. Mine is a 2013 Series V ST, and there is a pale blue wire where that 'vacant spot' should be. My steering wheel controls don't light up. I have checked fuses etc etc. So, I'm wondering, how do I remove the silver panels that hold the controls onto the steering wheel? Is it that I have to remove my airbag? I have no fear of this, since I have done it on many cars in the past, and know the drill. Or do these simply unclip? I'm thinking the bulbs might have blown, like the ones in my aircon controls did (now replaced) Hopefully my crap picture will show up. That wire is supposed to be a pale blue (where the 'vacant spot' is supposed to be.
