Reverse Camera Auto-Switching

Today I've being going nuts looking for a Yellow/Green cable, as per the electronic service manual, to hook up to my Pioneer AVH-3300BT. So far the rear camera is working if I select it from the source list, but until I can wire that auto-switch cable to something, it won't do it when I select reverse.

After doing a bit of reading here about towbar looms and the such, it would appear maybe I should be looking for a Blue/White cable instead.

Ideally I would rather wire it up near the dash, any ideas where to find it so I can hook into it? So far my plan for tomorrow is to run a length of wire from the dash to the boot, PLEASE help me out and give me an easier job emoticon !

Also today I made a bypass using a 12v 4-pin relay to get rid of the stupid Pioneer procedure to allow the head unit to do anything other than radio without the handbrake on, seems giving a permanent earth no longer works. Works a treat with the relay grounding after the unit turns on, I activated the relay using the amp power wire which gets power about 1 second after it turns on which then connects up the ground.

Re:

Try hooking the camera to the reverse lights, that way when you are in reverse and the lights are on, the camera will work.

Re: Reverse Camera Auto-Switching

Hey Tony,

The camera's power is run from the back of the 12v output in the boot, so it's on when the car is on. I often have the back of the X-Trail loaded so high and I can't use the rear view mirror, so by wiring it into the 12v output it means I can view the camera on my Pioneer while not in reverse.

Main problem at the moment is the auto-switching, I could run a wire down to the rear lights but the power for those rear lights ultimately comes from up front, if I can find out where it makes the job so much easier. emoticon

Hey
Have You found the right wire somewhere near the dash ?? Have the same problem and haven't tried figuring it out yet so maybe I've already done that ?

If not I'll start looking tommorow for a wire comming out of reverse sensor in the gearbox and looking wgere it goes

You can find the Yellow/Green wire for Reverse connected at terminal 35 on the TCM (Transmission Control Module) on the passenger's side footwell as shown in the following diagram for a RHD Xtrail T30

Re: Reverse Camera Auto-Switching

Do you have the sat nav in the glove box? if so then green wire with 2 silver stripes 50mm apart at the back of the sat nav with 3 blue wires next to it on one side and a white wire on the other side is the reverse trigger.

Hope this helps

Re: Reverse Camera Auto-Switching

Hi Mustafa,
Do you have the standard head unit which came with the Xtrail or a different one ?
Some head units just need to sense a signal on the AV input to switch and nothing else. Fow these you can just power the camera from the reversing lights and it will work.
