I hope my Series 4 comes with the latest maps.

Hey Jalalski, I just checked my maps and they are 2009. I am taking it back to Nissan to upgrade them as I looked into doing it myself and it appears that Eclipse only do update software for PC and I am a Mac owner. Plus I don't believe that it's right that I get a brand new car with 2 year old maps on it.

Cheers Scott.

Hi Scott,

Took delivery of my T31 Ti 2011 model today and the first thing I checked were the maps. They're the same as yours Q4.2009 version, so I straight away mentioned it to them and they said they know I will be complaining, as they have spoken to you already and promised you to do a free upgrade. That's Steven at McGrath Nissan emoticon

He said he'll get mine sorted at the first service as well.

The GPS can't even find my own house number, so the maps are way out of date LOL emoticon

handbrake wire

Addressing the original question;
Very easy job to earth out the handbrake wire from the back of the head unit.
Affects only the head unit, no warning lights/sounds from the dash re handbrake still on.

Re: handbrake wire

so how did you end up doing it?
i will be getting a lease car and i cant really make any mods to it, is it a fairly unobtrusive mod that can be reveresed?

Hi Philip,

Which wire was it and how difficult it is to remove the Eclipse unit from its place? I wanna do this on mine and I do understand it is illegal to do so, so will only use the DVD screen in "certain" situations".

Can you also mention a good earthing point behind the Eclipse?

Hi Don,

And did you successfully update the maps on the Eclipse without any problems?

Instructions for changing the Splash Screen ( I havnt tried it yet, will have a go this weekend).

Instructions for changing boot startup screen on AVN726EA or AVN726E:

1. Create bitmap file, MUST be 8 bit (256 colour), 496 x 278 exact resolution size
2. Save file as OP1.bmp that's an O, not a zero
3. Create text file (no text inside), call it CSM.txt
4. Burn both files onto CD-R/RW (just the 2 files, nothing else)
5. Insert disc into headunit
6. Wait for about a minute or 2, eventually it will say "Reading Data. Do not power off"
7. Display will then say "Completed"

To default back to original Eclipse startup image:

Same instructions as above, however, the text file is called CSM_DEL.txt burn the text file onto CD only (no bitmap image).

This has worked like a charm emoticon

If anyone wants to have the forum logo displayed on the head unit, here is the bmp file ready for you to download

I thought I'll bite the bullet and also parted with $30 bucks for an SD card loaded with the Q1.2011 iGo maps, so I will soon tell you if they work and if our Eclipse likes them.

Hopefully we can share these maps within our forum soon emoticon

Hi Don,

The guy that sold me the maps on eBay is asking me this

quote:

Can you please tell me your gps screen RESOLUTION size and baud settings so i can setup your sd card for your particular gps model, if unknown both can be found in the 'sys' text file on your gps sd card.

I got no idea what he's talking about. Did you have to provide this information as well?

Re: Eclipse MAPS

Hi guys,

Signed up to eclipse.naviextras.com and was able to update my Q4 2009 Map to Q3 2010 for free, through the updates tab. I'm not sure whether it has the same features as the purchased upgrade, as I haven't had a chance to check it out thoroughly, but if it hasn't got the 4wd maps that are mentioned for the purchased option then I'm considering purchasing the full version for my trip to Broome.

Having said that my mate is purchasing a new nav system, for his soon to be Prado, which has latest 4WD maps so I might sponge off him for the trip away instead of forking out the $130US. Also have a set of Hema maps that I got as an accessory when I bought the Exxy so won't get lost.

My main PC is an Apple so luckily I have a laptop that I could use otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get the update.

Allan
