I hope my Series 4 comes with the latest maps.

Hey Jalalski, I just checked my maps and they are 2009. I am taking it back to Nissan to upgrade them as I looked into doing it myself and it appears that Eclipse only do update software for PC and I am a Mac owner. Plus I don't believe that it's right that I get a brand new car with 2 year old maps on it.

Cheers Scott.

Thanks Scott, am gonna check the maps version prior to taking delivery of mine and if they're the old version, am gonna ask the dealer to do the upgrade themselves.

Are the new maps contained in the firmware upgrade or do they need to load the new maps separately?

The maps are separate to the firmware. And to make things interesting, I called Nissan and asked about getting the Maps updated. They guy was really helpful but very apologetic. He explained that they had no facility to update the maps and that it was Nissan's policy not to pay for upgrades. He agreed that it's B/S that you get 2 year old maps in a new car and put me on to Nissan Australia. I haven't contacted em yet but I am pretty sure they will initially decline to help.

I have also contacted David at Eclipse via their contact us link on their site. He has been awesome. He is going to be in Sydney later this month and has agreed to do the update for me. He is even going to come to my work. He needs the car for 10 minutes and all will be well. I am still going to pursue Nissan though. It's not the fault of Eclipse that the maps are out of date and Nissan should be the ones to rectify the problem. Will keep everyone posted.

I find that hard to believe that Nissan Australia hasn't set-up a deal with Eclipse to perform map upgrades or at least try and on-sell them to customers on behalf of Eclipse. I will contact Nissan Australia and ask them about this on Monday.

Are we expected to engage the services of "Dave" all the time? LOL emoticon

Maybe you can ask him to sign-up to our forum? emoticon

Re:

Hi Guys,

David from Eclipse/Fujitsu (is he the only one that works there?) replied to my query regarding the map upgrades for the sat nav and they expect us to pay US$129.00 to have the maps upgraded, as they said they don't control the maps and the latest map update was released in May this year for the 2010 maps.

I find this preposterous to be honest, as it shows a complete lack of support from Eclipse, especially if they expect new owners of (post May 2011) who are getting their cars with outdated 2009 maps to go a fork-out another $130 bucks to have the latest maps installed.

I have highlighted this to Nissan Australia yesterday and they're investigating.

Re: T31 Series 3 & 4 Eclipse Head Unit

In a post back in May last year http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/t128176 about map upgrades I contacted Nissan and was quoted $381.00 for the pleasure of Nissan doing the map update.

I went ahead and purchased the upgrade from Eclipse in the US, unfortunately the exchange rate wasn't as good back then. Simple DIY job and Eclipse tech support were helpful.

Re:

Thanks for linking that thread Adam.

So, do they (Eclipse) expect you to now fork-out another US$129.00 to download the 2010 Q3 maps after you have paid that amount to download the 2009 version?

You also mentioned something about a Nissan logo on start-up. Did you customize that yourself or was it pre-loaded?

Re: T31 Series 3 & 4 Eclipse Head Unit

If we want to keep our maps up to date we are going to lighten our wallets every year. The Nissan logo is factory set by Nissan and doesn't change when you update the maps. There is a youtube video describing how to change the image. I tried but could get it to work.

Yep, I have seen the video on how to change the logo and it's posted in this thread. Didn't know that Nissan included their logo from factory in the Eclipse.

Re:

Instructions for changing the Splash Screen ( I havnt tried it yet, will have a go this weekend).

Instructions for changing boot startup screen on AVN726EA or AVN726E:

1. Create bitmap file, MUST be 8 bit (256 colour), 496 x 278 exact resolution size
2. Save file as OP1.bmp that's an O, not a zero
3. Create text file (no text inside), call it CSM.txt
4. Burn both files onto CD-R/RW (just the 2 files, nothing else)
5. Insert disc into headunit
6. Wait for about a minute or 2, eventually it will say "Reading Data. Do not power off"
7. Display will then say "Completed"

To default back to original Eclipse startup image:

Same instructions as above, however, the text file is called CSM_DEL.txt burn the text file onto CD only (no bitmap image).
