T31 Series 3 & 4 Eclipse Head Unit

Hi Guys,

Those of you with a Ti or TL Series 3 & 4 have the above head-unit/GPS fitted.

Can you please let me know if the head-unit DVD feature operates when the car is in motion or if it has been linked to the hand-brake switch and will only operate when the car is parked?

I hate this "safety" feature to be honest, as my wife likes to watch movies on long drives and I'd rather have her watch movies than my speed emoticon

If it is linked to the hand-brake, has anyone disabled it yet?

It shouldn't be too hard to disable it Jalal, at least you will know where to start looking.

Jalal,

There is a wire connected to the handbrake. I found this out as some phone controls are disabled when the handbrake is off. Very annoying.

Re:

Thanks Adam,

So, is it a matter of disconnecting that wire to the handbrake to enable the functions or is more electrical work required inside the head-unit?

I am sure this will drive me nuts when I get the car and I don't think Nissan would accept wiring it any differently for me for "safety purposes" of course.

Yep can confirm what Adam said. I tried it today. Whilst the handbrake is down the DVD plays Audio only. As soon as you stop and put it in neutral and pull the handbrake on it gets video as well. I don't think it's gonna be too hard to fix though.

Cheers SCott.

To watch a DVD or use the other phone menus you can be in any gear as long as you have the handbrake on.

If you pull the connector off the handbrake switch at the bottom of the handbrake it will enable what you want, but as soon as you drive off the T31 will think you still have the handbrake on and sound a chime and you will notice that the handbrake warning light on the dash is permanently on.

There is a wire on the back of the head unit (red/white - but it might be different for different manufacturing batches) that connects to the handbrake wire which you have to cut and earth to do the mod. 5 minute job to pull off the fascia panel, unscrew the head unit earth the wire and re assemble.

One problem....it is illegal to have DVD/Video Player on whilst vehicle is in motion and picture can be viewed by the driver.....this said, here is my disclaimer...I did not tell you how to perform this modification, and you do so at your own risk to you and you vehicle, and you wear the consequences of a fine and having your vehicle defected by the police if caught. emoticon

Cheers,

Greg.

Thanks Greg emoticon

By the way, does the Eclipse head-unit have a video/audio out jack/port if I wanna hook-up the head-rest monitors to it to transmit the same video/audio signal?

It definitely has a video input via 3 RCA plugs (red/white/yellow), I didn't see an output although I wasn't really looking. I would imagine it does. I'll have a look.

Cheers,

Greg.

Unless Nissan have changed the headunit for series 3 & 4 (very unlikely), the below links will assist

On a side note, a map update should be released this month. It has been 12 months since I was last ripped off emoticon

Re:

Excellent Adam,

I hope the Series 3 and 4 Eclipse unit is the same, which I think it is.

The installation manual confirms that there is a video out plug for an external source and there is also audio out.

This thing seems to be region code locked to Region 4 DVD discs, which sucks big time, as most of my favourite movies are on Region 1 discs emoticon I wonder if there is a region hack for this Eclipse head unit which can unlock the region coding? emoticon

Also, does it play DVD-R discs OK or is it sensitive to them too?

I hope my Series 4 comes with the latest maps.
