Still holding strong mate and now I can't even remember what a smoke tasted like emoticon

The best thing about it is the extra energy I got and I can really feel it when I am at the gym, no more huffing and puffing after doing 20 laps at the swimming pool, I just keep powering through emoticon

Going back to my doctor this week to get the rest of the course for Champix.

Re: The best thing I have ever done!

Great news Jalal.
I went cold turkey on 3 July 1977 after starting around 13 or 14. My older bro and I used to pinch dad's (RIP) and he used to blame my mother for throwing them out (god bless her..she's 90 in July and still has all her wits about her).
I had taken up Scuba diving at the time and was really peeved off (after spending hard earned money on dive trips) that I had to surface some 10-15 minutes earlier than other divers....I blamed heavier breathing from smoking, thus using up air supply quicker.

Anyway, I met my wife some 32 years ago and she was smoking then, and alas, after trying several times to quit with encouragement from all, she still smokes. I will show her this thread and suggest she talks to her doctor about the Champix that appears to have worked for you.

Ain't this forum great when topics other than the coveted Exy can be discussed and commented on.

Well done Jalal and now your Gym work will become less strenuous methinks.

cheers

Thanks Dave and it is amazing to find out how many other colleagues at work have either started this medication course either at the same time with me or shortly after and some others have successfully completed it and turned into non-smokers for over 12 months now.

It just gives us all that ammunition we need to bounce ideas and encouragements with one another knowing that we're not alone and that it can be done!

I would strongly recommend your wife to start taking the Champix if she passes the medical test and her doctors approves it.

Re: The best thing I have ever done!

Hi Jalal,

Talked to my mother about this when I saw her last week on holidays.
She said she had tried the Champix before and after a few weeks had memory fade, not being able to remember some simple things and being the Women's Lawn Bowls Secretary for her club this was not very good so she stopped the course of tablets.

I have told her to go back to the doctor and tell him as it might be a temporary side effect and if she starts the course again and the same thing happens, go see the doctor when it does.

Wondering if you or any of the others have found the same effect ?

Re:

Kev,

That is quite possible and the side effects are definitely related to the person's age and other factors, some will even experience depression as a result of these tablets as I read on the net. The most important thing is to discuss ANY side effect with the doctor directly as the dosage can be adjusted to suit each person. Most of the side effects are only temporary anyway with the most serious one being depression!

I personally didn't experience any side effects apart from going to bed early and waking up at 4am (everyday), that's why you see me online at the crack of dawn making posts LOL emoticon

A mate at work who just started the course one week after I did has experienced weird dreams....but he said he likes them LOL emoticon

Re:

Thanks Samuel, the biggest test was this long weekend where social activities were involved, meaning drinks, BBQ and other smokers in the group and I held up pretty well and resisted all temptations emoticon

I thought I would be dying for a smoke as soon as I picked up that drink, but I actually enjoyed the drink even more without the smoke in hand. hahahaha emoticon

Now that is a big bonus indeed emoticon

Not sure what the weird dreams are, be he laughed when he said it, so they can't be that bad at all. emoticon
