For a while yet you'll keep encountering "triggers". Events where in the past you would do something, and then light up afterwards. The brain is a tricky little bugga and it will remember that, and remind you. The hardest fight in terms of heavy cravings is over for you. Now its just those little niggles that keep popping up by surprise. And those moments when your guard is down, and your mouth just starts watering. You don't always know why it started, but you know what it wants. As you know, there's too many benefits to having stopped, to consider going back. You're a legend Jalal, for doing what you've done - and are doing. Keep up the great work! I should get a photo of my trophy - an old ashtray of mine. I put the date I had my last puff onto it as a trophy for having won that fight. nondisclosed_email@example.com (andyp1971)Sat, 25 Jun 2011 13:33:36 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2053819,from=rss#post2053819https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2053819,from=rss#post2053819Thanks Andy, What do you mean by "you've yet to go through"? What could ever be worse than the withdrawal symptoms I have experienced on some days? I think for me personally, once the decision has been made, it all started to make sense after that and the medicine I was taking only encouraged me to continue not smoking. I know what you're saying and in all honesty I still like the smell of a smoke when walking past someone smoking, but I hate the smell of someone who just finished having a puff and I can't believe I was smelling like that. The other big bonus is the pay-rise I gave myself at the end of the month, I look at my account and can't believe that that money was all wasted on smokes before nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Thu, 23 Jun 2011 12:38:26 +0000 Re: The best thing I have ever done!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2053818,from=rss#post2053818https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2053818,from=rss#post2053818As an 'ex' I can fully appreciate what you're going through. And what you've yet to go through... Well done! I can sort of understand where Stephen is coming from though. After 10 years I still wouldn't trust myself to take a single puff as my system would jump for joy and I'd be hooked again. Keep it up J! The most important thing is to discuss ANY side effect with the doctor directly as the dosage can be adjusted to suit each person. Most of the side effects are only temporary anyway with the most serious one being depression! I personally didn't experience any side effects apart from going to bed early and waking up at 4am (everyday), that's why you see me online at the crack of dawn making posts LOL A mate at work who just started the course one week after I did has experienced weird dreams....but he said he likes them LOL nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Thu, 21 Apr 2011 11:26:11 +0000 Re: The best thing I have ever done!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051855,from=rss#post2051855https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051855,from=rss#post2051855Hi Jalal, Talked to my mother about this when I saw her last week on holidays. She said she had tried the Champix before and after a few weeks had memory fade, not being able to remember some simple things and being the Women's Lawn Bowls Secretary for her club this was not very good so she stopped the course of tablets. I have told her to go back to the doctor and tell him as it might be a temporary side effect and if she starts the course again and the same thing happens, go see the doctor when it does. Wondering if you or any of the others have found the same effect ?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Thu, 21 Apr 2011 09:43:02 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051851,from=rss#post2051851https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051851,from=rss#post2051851Thanks Dave and it is amazing to find out how many other colleagues at work have either started this medication course either at the same time with me or shortly after and some others have successfully completed it and turned into non-smokers for over 12 months now. It just gives us all that ammunition we need to bounce ideas and encouragements with one another knowing that we're not alone and that it can be done! My older bro and I used to pinch dad's (RIP) and he used to blame my mother for throwing them out (god bless her..she's 90 in July and still has all her wits about her). I had taken up Scuba diving at the time and was really peeved off (after spending hard earned money on dive trips) that I had to surface some 10-15 minutes earlier than other divers....I blamed heavier breathing from smoking, thus using up air supply quicker. Anyway, I met my wife some 32 years ago and she was smoking then, and alas, after trying several times to quit with encouragement from all, she still smokes. I will show her this thread and suggest she talks to her doctor about the Champix that appears to have worked for you. Ain't this forum great when topics other than the coveted Exy can be discussed and commented on. Well done Jalal and now your Gym work will become less strenuous methinks. cheers nondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Wed, 20 Apr 2011 22:20:39 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051827,from=rss#post2051827https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051827,from=rss#post2051827Fantastic news. Really pleased to see that more and more of us "xtrailies" are quitting. I've been off the smokes for approx 5-6 years now, but am still addicted to the bloody nicotine If you're concerned about how your body will react to the lack of smoking and/or Chimpax , take up walking/exercising. I started out with a personal trainer when I gave up ... bloody hard it was, but (as Dave says) the rewards far outway the desire to ever smoke again. [I used to think (when I saw anyone running), if they are in such a hurry ... then they should drive! ] And if you falter and have a fag, don't despair. After 3/5 months you will be suprised how good you feel, and how little you miss it. If the habit gets broken (smoke with coffee in morning, smoke in car to work, smoke breaks at work etc) the body adapts really well. Its awesome product, I have NO idea how it works, but it does. Just enjoy not smoking for now, and dont worry about the future. I have bought so many tools in the last 6 months (to reward myself ) its not funny, but I have still spent less than when I smoked cigarettes. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Robbo0001)Sat, 09 Apr 2011 13:54:10 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051566,from=rss#post2051566https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051566,from=rss#post2051566Hi Dave, I started smoking when I was 25 (pretty late) but I have to thank (or blame) the Army for that, as smokes were issued for free to personnel serving in "difficult/hard" posts, so it all started from there. Luckily for me I don't drink that much unless it's a special occasion, so haven't tried yet as I used to have a smoke (or 20) with my beer as well. Yes, I am planning on completing the full 3 months and my doctor said that since am a "pack a day" smoker, the government will give me an additional 2 months as well (5 months in total) just to make sure I stay off them. I am a bit worried as to what happens after I stop taking Chimpax, will I jump on the smokes all over again when the brain senses are no longer being fooled by this tablet or will I continue to resist them as the body will be full cleansed by then?nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 09 Apr 2011 13:37:25 +0000 Re: The best thing I have ever done!https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051565,from=rss#post2051565https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2051565,from=rss#post2051565Smoked since I was 13, and got on the Champix in November last year. This thing works like magic and blocks all cravings as if I never smoked before in my life No side affects either, apart from being very energetic to do stuff around the house to keep myself always busy.....the wife is over the moon with that of course Reasons for quitting now? 1. Health! I want to be around to see my grand-kids 2. Cost!! It is just becoming ridiculous that smokers have to fund the government kitty for every bloody budget short-fall and I don't like being used (as an individual) in such a way, so it's a matter of principal for me and they won't see a cent from me In 5 years time and with the current price of a pack of smokes, I will be able to fully pay-off the Red Bull just from the cost of puffing air/smoke into the atmosphere....how cool is that Everybody at work is supporting me, so am sure you guys will be behind me as well, as I feel very proud of my achievement of kicking this habit. nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 09 Apr 2011 08:32:25 +0000
