posticon Bullbars & Nudge Bars under threat by the Federal Government

Hi Guys,

I have received a couple of emails from local 4WD businesses expressing great concerns regarding the Federal Government intention to apply stricter rules and prohibit some vehicles from having a bullbar and/or nudge bar fitted to align with European standards regarding pedestrian safety (yeah, we had this argument before...didn't we!!)

Anyway, most 4WD business are now asking for your support by undertaking an online survey the results of which will be presented to the government to make their final ruling on this.

The survey can be found HERE

Please take a moment to voice your opinion on this and make a stand!

Copied from Accessories & Mods thread:

G'day all

Just received an email from ARB with the following link attached.

If the Federal Australian government goes ahead with it's ludicrous plan, the ramifications will impede on a lot of X-trailers as well as the 4WD'ing public in general.

There is a survey that you can complete (at the end of the article), with every survey completed money is donated towards the Qld Flood Relief/Royal Flying Doctor Service. Either way, I think it is vital that the Australian 4WD'ing community stand up and be counted.

I would also be interested to hear comments from our European members.

emoticon and thanks for your time.

Re:

I too just finished the survey but is the nudge bar covered by this banning.
The survey never mentioned anything about nudge bars, bull bars only.

To my understanding they only want to get the information to know how we use our bullbars so they can redesign a newer bullbar for pedestrian, animal, driver and passengers.

They have been talking about banning the current styles of bullbars for years and sadly it's only a matter of time untill they do, no matter how many surveys we fill out.

Re:

Tony,

The ADR rule the government is trying to modify applies to all vehicle frontal protection systems and this includes bull bars and nudge bars.

If we take your view and just ignore this type of behavior by the government, today they will succeed in banning the bull bars and tomorrow they would want to limit the use of 4WDs and SUVs to off-road and country roads OR slam us with higher registration and insurance fees....you can clearly see where this is heading.

These surveys are an additional ammunition for the authorized 4WD corporations and spokes people to fight on our behalf and prove the case that some standards are just not realistic and can't be aligned with Europe!

Done

Interesting question how far from a major city?

I'm 20k from Hobart city centre another 10k down the road you in a rural area including dirt roads and wildlife. How does that relate to European design?

Cheers

I completed the survey although I have not yet fitted a nudge bar. I have been keenly reading the nudge bar forum comments but cannot make up my mind as to what to purchase as yet and whether adding a nudge bar or adding a full bumper replacement is best option for me. I will continue my homework.

cheers

===============================

I thought you all might find this interesting. Apparently the government is planning to ban bull bars. Not too sure of the specifics or the validity of this, but I have been emailed a link today from reputable sources.

I'll leave you guys to make up your own mind, but here's the link:
