What level should the oil be after a service ?

Hi every one.

Was just playing with the info button on the steering wheel when starting the car (oil good) then when it show's how much oil with the five "0's" it only came up with one circle. So i checked the dipstick after i got home and it looks like to me like it is only half full this was on flat ground.

Does this sound right i have done under 500ks since its 10000k service.

thanks jase.

Had the same problem with Phillipa's after one service, I'm guessing you've got a diesel and the dealer has filled it with the amount of oil required for the petrol motor. If so I'd ring the buggers and find out when they are coming to pick it up to fix the problem.

Geez, I wish the poverty pack manual shows where the oil level is.
It would be nice to see the display redaing something else.

The level of oil should always be towards the top 'full' line, give or take a few millimeters.

And after driving anywhere you should leave the Xtrail to stand for a while to make sure all the oil in the top of the motor has drained back into the sump or your level check will be incorrect.

Also, are you sure the oil indicator is for oil level and not oil pressure ?

Re: What level should the oil be after a service ?

I've always seen my reading the 5 "o"s and that's just after startup.

As suggested previously they've probably given you the petrol load of 4 litres of oil instead of the diesel's required 7.4litres.

If they've done that with the oil I'd also demand that they change the oil because if they can't get the quantity right then the odds are good that they've put in an oil in that isn't a low ash C3 rated oil, necessary to reduce problems with your particulate filter.

Give them a call and get it fixed immediately - at their cost

Re: What level should the oil be after a service ?

all fixed, was told that it only needed half a litre of oil. I have my doubts obout the amount of oil that they put in. but that is what i was told.

I was also told that i did not no how to check the oil properly as there is a special procedure to do that and it takes around 20 min to do properly.

lets hope that this issue is all sorted......

jase
