Re: Sunny Corner Trek - From 4wd Treks Close to Sydney

I can say with 100% confidence that without A/T rubber and at least a few days of it being dry, exy's with highway tyres will really stuggle.

Ill post a video early next week of what happened when we went up there last weekend.

I did this trip with the last forum outing, my standard tyres were half worn and I did the trip with ease and back then still had the factory suspension.

Hi Tony,

Cheers.

Re: Sunny Corner Trek - From 4wd Treks Close to Sydney

Hi Tony,

Correct me if im wrong but ]this trip report is the "Touring the Turon" trek from the book and not "Sunny Corner Trek" as previous stated.

See attached you tube link for the trip i was reffering to. Rover Video. Up until 2:30 in the video is only the first hill on the track and the entire part is clay.

Was curious whether anyone had attempted this one and actually made it through??

Unless you can find some chicken runs around some of that track you may very well get stuck in some places as the creek areas I think maybe too deep for the exy But you can always turn around if you can not get thru and it would make for some challenging driving and skill testing

Regards Scot

Re: Sunny Corner Trek - From 4wd Treks Close to Sydney

Thats right, but there was talk earlier in the thread about combining the treks together.
Both have similar terrain and I would class the 2 treks as the same difficulty.
There is only one part of the Sunny Corner trek which will stop an Xy, the last hill climb over stepped rocks towards the summit of the mountain.

Re: Sunny Corner Trek - From 4wd Treks Close to Sydney

I've done this trip a couple of times, the first time we had a series 2 X-Trail on the trip (myself in the Pathfinder). It did ok, but needed a little help once when opposite corner wheels lost traction - the open diff doesn't help here. An X-trail with limited slip diff wouldn't have any issue.

But, the second time I did this track a grader had been through it. The section where we helped the series 2 X-Trail a few meters is now like the F3 - so is not an issue any more.

Then there is one hill - Jackass hill - you would need to take the d-tour around this (the book describes this d-tour). But only because you would require raised suspension to get up this without damage.

You could camp at the Diggins camp site, there's a drop toilet but anything else you'd need to bring (food/water etc).

If there is any interest I'm happy to take some of you on this trip, maybe during the summer holidays?

Ron
