Re: T31 CVT - How many Kms have you done trouble free?

My 08 Ti has done 78,000km's though I bought it 2nd hand at 70,000km's. It appears my troubles with the CTV have just begun............?

I have used the manual gear selections a few times for power up hill, or slowing down on descent. Last week, I selected manual for power up hill, but when I moved the stick across, it still showed "D" for automatic drive. I tried moving up or down gears but it remained in "D". So, I moved it back to automatic, and the car still drove alright. I tried the manual selection a few times again over several days, but it still displayed "D" for drive.

Today, it went into a Nissan dealer for repairs, and was told it would be ready by 3.30pm. At 1pm I was contacted to say that there was a problem(?), and would need it another day. So, will see what transpires tomorrow.

Just as a footnote, the manual gear selection did work well, however 10 days ago, I had the Nissan dealer "rework" the gear selection as it was getting stuck in Park 90% of the time. That was repaired on Warranty, but since then the manual selection has not worked.

Makes me wonder, did they "stuff up" when they "reworked" the gear selection to correct the Park problem........?

Re: T31 CVT - How many Kms have you done trouble free?

Just an update on my previous posting of 2/2/11;

Vehicle went in to Nissan dealer 2/2/11, and told they would need it until 3/2/11. On 3/2/11, I was informed that a part(?) had to be ordered, and wouldn't arrive until 8/2/11. So, I got my car back late 3/2/11, driveable, but not repaired.

On 9/2/11 I rang to see if part had arrived, and was told it was coming from Nissan, and now wouldn't be here until 18/2/11 - not happy!

Waiting, waiting, waiting...............................................?

Les

Re: Re:

Answering your question Jalalski, mine has just reached 20,000km and it's going in next week for a gearbox replacement.
Just a couple of other questions if you could help me, as I have scrolled all the posts on this CVT failure topic but can't find the answers to 3 questions:
1/What actually was the problem found in the CVT?
2/Is it likely to cause any extra damage to other components it's linked to?
3/Is lack of car/engine braking when shifting back gears manually on the CVT (esp downhill) a characterisitic of this tranny?
Thx heaps mate.

Re: T31 CVT - How many Kms have you done trouble free?

Hi John,

The full CVT saga and failures are recorded in THIS thread.

Nissan are still refusing to acknowledge the problem and officially admit it's an issue and/or design fault, so they seem to be replacing these CVT boxes left, right and centre and I can only wonder what will happen to existing CVT owners when the warranty finally runs-out.

To have a CVT transmission fail after only 20,000kms is a real concern and this could very well be repeated again, as some guys are on their 3rd CVT transmission box already!

1. Nissan can't find the cause as far as I am aware, otherwise they would have admitted it and implemented a maintenance measure rather than just replace the entire transmission.

2. I don't think it is impacting on any other component of the car.

3. Not sure, but you may wish to read on the characteristics of the CVT transmission in THIS thread.

If you have any further questions about the CVT Failure, please use the existing CVT failure thread, as this thread is only meant to record statistical information about the CVT failures for future reference.

Just to note that I regularly use engine braking by shifting to manual and changing down gears on a certain hill and it works fine, 50000ks and mine still runs fine, hope it keeps running fine when warranty is gone.

Re: T31 CVT - How many Kms have you done trouble free?

Following on from my previous postings;

My Nissan dealer rang up 2 days early, saying the part had arrived. The vehicle was repaired under warranty 17/2/11, with the description of repair being "removed and replaced T bar assembly as required due to failure in T bar". I suggested was the fault due to the dealer's previous work when they re-worked the shift release? Being non-committal, I was told the old part would be sent to Melbourne to find out whether it was faulty or had been broken.

As a footnote, I mentioned CTV complaints on this Forum. I was told not to take too much notice of forums, as complaints are usually from people who don't service their cars regularly, or take them to non-dealerships for service, where they haven't access to dealers' technology. Hmmm, wasn't too impressed with that reply.

Anyway, at lest my problem is solved, and hopefully it won't reoccur too in the next few years - my usual ownership of a vehicle.

Yeah right LOL emoticon

Considering the CVT problems are all happening for cars that are still under the Nissan factory warranty and which are all being serviced by Nissan dealers, I wonder where such a statement comes from. Instead of making pathetic excuses, maybe they need to look at the problem at hand and admit that it IS a problem!

Am gonna actually create a CVT Problem thread in the myNissan Forum, so they can have a better visibility of it emoticon

EDIT: CVT Problem now posted on the myNissan website emoticon
