Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners
Hi Chris,
You might wanna look at alternatives discussed HERE or import the Eclipse head unit directly from China, which will cost much cheaper.

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners
I have also been looking at doing the eclipse mod..ive also gotten $2500 quote for unit, camera, IPOD cable steering interface and install.
Jalal I have also tried to look at importing out of China and cant find anything - If you have any contacts ideas please let me know.
Please note the IPOD cable for this unit is a video (RCA or white, red, yellow) to IPOD/Iphone. So it is not a USB to IPOD cable as I first thought.

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners
Samuel,
Send me a PM and I'll give you the details of a company in China from whom you can buy with confidence as I bought from them before and the stuff arrived within 3 days by DHL.
The prices are unbelievable compared to what you would pay for the same stuff (different badge) here in Australia.
I do not wish to advertise them here on the forum

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners
Silly question Jalal, but are there any differences to the badged products?
What about the install... I don't feel capable of installing it myself, even though I work in IT and can pull a PC apart etc. Is it possible to take it to a Car Audio place and get them to install it?
Cheers,
Chris.

Apart from the badge, most of these units come from China and share exactly the same internal components. You are paying a premium price for the badge and also local warranty.

Any auto electrician can fit them for you. I can modify anything in my car, but when it comes to head-units, I hate doing it, so I always take it to the local auto electrician to spend a couple of hours under the pedals

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners
quote: To reply Mr Xtrail's post the Eclipse Does have USB. Nissan place the USB in the small compartment with flip down door under the head-unit. Fits my ipod and cable perfectly and all ipod controls are made from the touch screen. I love this feature. The USB won't play video.
I should've explained a little clearer, yes there is a USB connection although the eclipse unit also has the option where you can buy the video to IPOD cable and this will then play video from your IPOD/Iphone to the head unit

Chris,
The biggest difference between the badged product like VMS and the clones when it comes to installation is custom cables and brackets but for the T31 there are not the space issues that amazingly the larger Navara had so basically anything will fit straight in with perhaps a minor mod to the brackets. The biggest issue I had was the loss of some steering wheel controls but with the choice of units available at the time this was a universal problem. If you can dismantle the dash you can fit any one of these units.

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners
Thanks for the advice guys.
I think I'd rather go with the Eclipse rather than the clones. I'd prefer to have the warranty and have it installed by a professional audio place. Also means I can upgrade the crap speakers as well.
I plan on keeping the exy for another 4 years, so don't mind spending moe, we'll get the use out of it.
Cheers,
Chris.
