GPS map upgrade TL and Ti Series 3 and 4 owners (Eclipse Navigation Units)

With all the new roads in and around Brisbane opening up I thought I would start researching on map upgrades for the Eclipse AVN726EA, which is standard on the bells and whistles Exy.

I sent a email off to Eclipse http://www.eclipse-web.com/au/ and received a reply stating the new map was now available. At $129.95 US it was about what I paid to upgrade my old Mio GPS.

Now here is the shock... I phoned Nissan today, and apart from the map upgrade not being available as yet I was quoted $381.00 for the pleasure of Nissan doing the upgrade for me when it is available. No thanks.

I went ahead and purchased the upgrade from Eclipse in the US. The upgrade is a two part process. The base software and maps are both upgraded. The PDF instructions are very simple to follow, all you need is a blank CD for the software upgrade and a 2gig SD card for the maps. All my favourites and POI were saved, even the Nissan logo at startup, however I did lose my phonebook contacts.

All in all I am very happy. I have already notice some of the errors in the old maps have been fixed and I am no longer offroad when travelling along the new Gateway motorway.

Excellent Adam and that is the way to go.

The question I have is this....

Is the upgrade specific and/or linked to the serial number of your head-unit or can it be shared with other owners as well? emoticon

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

so much for improved x trail
for start build quality slips a lot
many things were standart on my 2004 ti
now all optional on 2010 ti
the thing that annoy me the most is that
after getting the car in march and driving
a lot around brisbane i keep getting lost
following in dash satnav
then i found out that the maps supplied
were 2008 q3
to upgrade to latest map which is still
only 2009 i have to pay extra
shouldnt 2010 car with factory fitted eclipse
sat include current maps?
is that asking to much?
regards
Rick

Jalalski, I also thought about 'sharing' my maps but the clever people at Eclipse have made it a single download only. To upgrade the maps you have to download their toolbox program onto your computer. My purchased download then disappeared once I installed it onto the SD card.

As for the using the SD card, the update process required the SD card to be inserted in the head unit first to backup your old maps and settings, you then remove the SD card and download the new maps straight to the SD card. You then go back to the GPS to update the maps.

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

Hi Adam,

Will the files currently available on your SD card work on another SD card if transferred across?

If the files on the SD card can be copied across, then what we can do is have them centrally located on the forum server for download by T31 owners who would chip in a small amount of money for you to recover the cost and for other owners to get it at a fraction of total price. This will only be available to Full Members of the forum obviously, as it can't stay out there in the open for obvious reasons emoticon

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

I am happy for someoene to try and transfer the files across to another SD card. Just remember it is a two part udate. The base software update must be done first. It is a free download (version 71) Found here AVN726EA Software & Map Update.

The instructions specifiy a 2gig memeory card and my backup and update took 777meg.

This software will only work with the Nissan unit, those with VMS or Chinese clones thereof (running IGO8 software) will have to wait for the next VMS update which I will test the portability of and advise accordingly.

Not only will you have to copy the full contents of the card from the original to the new, you will also have to name the new card the same as the original or the software might not recognise it as a map card.

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

Hey Guys,

Rather than open a new thread, I thought I'd ask in here....

I have an 2008TL, so missed out on the GPS unit. I'd actually been looking at the Eclipse AVN726EA to install, before I knew it was the one Nissan had bung in the new models.

Does everyone like this model in their exy? Would you recommend it? The cost to get one, with rear view camera and steering wheel controls integration is about $2500 installed in WA. Worth it?

Cheers,

Chris.
