Tailgate wont lock

I have a 2005 T30.

The rear tailgate will not lock, with the remote or by button on drivers door.
It began intermittantly but now will not lock at all.
I have checked all the fuses and all are in order. No other issues with the car, no history of issues either.

Any help in trouble shooting would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: Tailgate wont lock

Gday Dave

Sounds like you have done the electric lock actuator in the rear door. emoticon emoticon
(This assumes that all of the other doors still lock?)

You will need to remove the inside rear panels of the tailgate door to access it and check circuits for power etc at the conecting tabs just to confirm the unit failure. Remove and replace with new or unit from wreckers.

Revhead Kev may have a wiring diag of the T30 for you and if he reads this i am quite sure he will post it for you emoticon

They are not that hard to change with basic tools and abilities or go to the auto elec and have them fit it for you.

Cheers joe

Re: Tailgate wont lock

Hi Dave,

I believe it is a faulty locking mechanism and it looks like this:

If you discover that yours is faulty and needs replacement, let me know as I have picked one up years ago from a wrecker for a member of our forum but he bought one already.

Can't remember how much I paid for it, but I think it was something close to $75.00 bucks.

Re: Tailgate wont lock

Hi Dave,

The rear tailgate lock mechanism is very simple in its wiring. Only 2 wires.
When locking, one will pulse +12V while the other will be Ground.
When unlocking, they will reverse and the wire which was ground for locking will now pulse +12V and the other now being Ground.

Best way to measure is to test the voltage of one wire by referencing it to a ground point on the car body. It it shows nothing when trying the lock button, try the unlock button.

The rear tailgate lock shares the same lock/unlock outputs as the rear passenger doors so if they are working then the tailgate should work also.

Re: Tailgate wont lock

Hi all

I have the same problem on my T30 but the rear wiper also is no working - both happened at the same time. Tested wiper, fuses -OK , no power to motor terminals. Number plate light OK.

Any suggestions?

Gary

Gary
Have you checked the fuses with an electric current through them? They can be blown and still visually appear to be good - use a circuit meter to check.

Look and test with a probe for broken wires especially at the door hinge area - chase the current to earth for a circuit- will light up before the break but not after.
Try turning the wiper on and jiggling the wires etc see what happens.

Cheers Joe

Hi gary,
Also check the connectors inside the tailgate, these may have vibrated loose.

Given the wiper has gone too this is quite likely to be the problem. Also check the earths....
