Towing my boat
Hi Guys. Just thought I would give a quick report on my first reasonably long trip towing my fully loaded Quintrex 480 Freedom Sport from Perth to Busselton at Xmas time. First of all let me say how extremely happy I was with the Exys performance. When I say that the boat was fully loaded I mean it. My wife refuses to go camping without every possible luxury she can manage to fit in the Car or the Boat. I am gradually weening her off some of these luxuries during camping, but no where near finished with this humongous task. I have even put a new ROLA roof basket on to help with her extra luggage. The fuel consumption was very reasonable considering the load of 4 passengers. I have lpg in the car as well, but chose to stick with petrol for the towing, as I had been told that is the best way to tow. The car was solid as a rock on the road. No bouncing or swaying. The only drama I had for the whole 2 weeks was getting stuck in the sand pulling my boat out of the water on a rather rough day on a beach boat ramp, which I had already used about 10 times that week. Backed the car and trailer a little too far into the water, and with the waves coming in thick and fast finally loaded boat on only to discover that the exys front wheels were well and truly sucked into the beach. Luckily there were quite a few 4x4 boys down on the beach all pulling there boats in. I just yelled out for some help and before I knew it a couple of boys had rushed over with a snatch strap, Hitched it up and we managed to pull me out boat and all in one go. These guys really new there stuff, to which I will be ever grateful, as i had visions of my exy and boat spending the night with the local fish. They were rewarded with nice cold carton. Had a good chat, and they had some great advice about the ramps in the area. Also had some advice on some handy equipment to have in the exy for these types of occasions. Went straight down to BRB 4x4 and invested in a decent recovery kit, which I hope I will never have to use under these circumstances again.

Boat will be nice but not the engine, I had a 150hp V6 Mariner on an old 5.1 fibregluss hull and the it used to fly (45 knots), but it was so thirsty, costs a fortune every time I went fishing.

Never got to tow it with the Exy though, probably never would have, too heavy.
