if you remove one bulb in the T30 and try and signal, the relay and turning signal blinks faster than usual which obviously indicates a blown/missing bulb.

Pretty much a standard "feature" on all vehicles that use a bi-metal strip flasher can. All it means is that the flasher-can (which is designed tu run on a set current) is now pulling more current through the coil cos a bulb is busted, and flashes faster as a result.
Easy to spot cars on the road with fast indicators. Can also be a sign of a crap earth or a incorrectly rated globe.

After locking the car this afternoon with the trailer on, a big smile came upon my face as I watched the indicators on the trailer light up. emoticon
I unlocked, locked, iunlocked and locked the car several times grinning all the time.

Better check that NMG has remotes in stock before you wear out the buttons on yours.....

Re: T31 Trailer Indicators working with no key in ignition.

Hey Tony

Great work on your DIY.

Today I found another interesting thing. While playing with the front park lights (Months ago) I blew the fuse. With none handy I robbed one from the fuse box... I "borrowed" the 15amp from the aux power socket. The one next to the cig lighter 10amp in the fuse box. No immediate change Until today when connecting the trailer.... No left or right indicators?????

It seems the repeater unit pulls power for the indicators from the 15A aux power plug at the back of Exy. No real surprise as it's right next to the unit. But one to be wary of as park lights and brakes lit up fine.

If anyone has shorted or overloaded the Aux power circuit the could be towing a defective trailer (no lights)

Cheers
Les

Re:

Tony as im no sparky just want to confirm something...
The two connectors has 2 wires per connector. When you have completed the DIY, does this mean that there is only 1 wire connected to the connector, and the other wire is taped up when you plug it back into the module?

thanks
Samuel

Re:

Thats right Samuel, just as the picture shows.

Image
The picture shows the wires as I did a test to see if everything worked. After this I soldered (I think) and taped everything up.

Give it all a test run before you solder everything up.

To this day (1 year later) there are no dramas and no side effects by doing this mod.

If you need any help I am am available all weekend if you need a hand.
Tony

Re:

thanks for the confirmation Tony.
I did realised this last night when I checked your pics again. I think it was the glare coming through the windows in the office when I first say your post that prompted me to ask for the confirmation.

Im looking at doing this mod & adding a rear cam in March...just wanted to get my head round it now so I can prepare for when the time comes.

Appreciate your help
Samuel

Great mod Tony

I wondered why Nissan would do something as dumb as disable the towed vehicle hazards..

I tow a coromal poptop..and now my van hazards flash without the keys in the ignition.

Thanks

Re: T31 Trailer Indicators working with no key in ignition.

Good work on the DIY Tony.

I had this problem on my old 2009 ST Petrol 6psd man. T31.

****Note: It appears that the problem does not exist on Series 4 T31's.*****

My new one (T31 Series 4 TS 6spd man. Diesel with dealer fitter tow pack) was built in January 2011 and the hazards (and central locking flash) work on the trailer with the ignition key out.

Maybe, there is a new nissan part to fix it, or an argument to get them to fix it seeing that the Series 4 is working as it should.

NOTE: see Jalal's post for the details of the UK recall. http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/t127934#post2038939

In the series 4, I have noticed a few other nice improvements over the 2009 model T31. I will list them in the proper sections. If someone is wanting to know more, then send me a message if that is possible.
