T30 Speedo gauges plastic cover

I don'tnow what it is called, but the clear plastic that covers the speedo gauges how does one remove it? My T30 has smutty looking marks (Armourall I think) on the inside face of the cover.

What model T30 do you have ?
Series 1 (with rectangular rear reflectors) or Series 2 (with round rear reflectors).
We need to know as the dashes are very different between the two models of T30.

Re: T30 Speedo gauges plastic cover

OK, Series 1 is easy for me to answer as I have one and have removed the guages many times.

1. Remove the two silver plastic strips on each side of the dash.
2. There will now be two screws, one on each side of the guage suncover, to undo.
3. Pull the suncover towards you to remove it.
4. Now you can get to the 4 screws, 2 on each side, holding the guages themselves.
5. There will be 3 connectors on the ack of the guages to allow you to remove the guages completely if you need to for cleaning outside the Xtrail.

Re: T30 Speedo gauges plastic cover

Hi Kev just saw this post.
I want to remove the cluster and the drivers glovebox as well.
saw the comment about the silver strips.
do they just clip out with something like a small blade screwdriver or similar??/

I was thinking about putting a second aux power in the drivers box and have an annoying spider web in the instrument cluster.

Re: T30 Speedo gauges plastic cover

Those silver trims do indeed just prise off. I used a set of the proper trim pullers, but a wide flat bladed screw driver will do the job too. Once you've pulled the dash cluster once, you can probably do it next time in under two mintes flat! although, sometimes the electrical plugs on the back of the cluster are fiddly to pull out the first time.

I think you have to remove the speaker grilles first to remove the silver trims, just put your hand at the back of the grille nearest the windscreen and pull the whole speaker grille up a little and towards you, they pop off very easy no screws on them, same as the instrument binnacle , the black cover over the cluster, grab it at the back and pull up. If only every car was that easy to work on!

Once you have the instrument cluster in your hands out the car, you'll see there are small black tabs top and bottom, just push them down and the clear cover is off.

Have a read of THIS thread, as there are certainly ways to make your T30 dash look brighter.
