posticon Hi-Tech Cat. Back System (T31 CVT Petrol)

]--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Dear Members,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the successful design and implementation of the very first cat. back exhaust system for the T31 CVT Petrol X-Trail.

I would like first to thank Lachlan for taking-up the offer I made on the forum asking for volunteers who'd willing to have Hi-Tech use their T31 petrol exy.

Secondly, I would like to thank Hi-Tech headed by Lambros and Dwayne (in the Hi-Tech factory at Bathurst) for proving to me yet again that we have partnered not only with a top company in this business, but with someone that care about quality and craftsmanship so much that any suggestion to implement short-cuts or cut corners during the design of this system were simply ignored. That's how passionate the Hi-Tech Mufflers people are and our forum means a LOT to them.

In this report, I will not go through why Hi-Tech was chosen as our partner to design and develop an exhaust system for the T31 X-Trail and I won't go through the facts of why their system is the BEST on the market in terms of quality, price and proven results, you can read the history about the Australian X-Trail Forum and Hi-Tech partnership ]HERE

Same warranty and the same quality and proven results also apply to this system and any exhaust system manufactured by Hi-Tech.

THE REPORT (Part 1)
===================

The design and development of the T31 CVT Petrol exhaust system started on early in October 2009 at the Hi-Tech headquarters in Darlinghurst when we compared the set-up of the T31 Petrol to the already existing exhaust system we designed for the T31 diesel and not much difference or modification was required to achieve what we wanted.

We also had a look at the extractors set-up and I have proceeded to order the gasket for it from Nissan, so Lambros could have a flage made for the extractors.

THE REPORT (Part 2)
==================

On 17/11/09 Lambros, myself and Lachlan headed to Bathurst to start work on the T31 CVT petroll exy exhaust system and the following photos will show you the stock standard exhaust system for the T31 which am sure you're familiar with:

Notice the monster Nissan muffler.

The following photo shows the factory cat. back system removed and the existing T31 cat. back section being added:

This is the factory cat. converter under the T31 exy which will remain un-touched for the Cat. Back System, but will be replaced with a stainless steel high flow cat. converter as part of the full exhaust system replacement later on when we design one.

The T31 Petrol Cat. Back System will be offered in the following combinations:

Option #1 Twins Cat. Back System

This system is the top of the line cat. back system for the T31 petrol which starts from the factory cat. converter in 2.5 inch pipe and ends with a twin muffler and twin tail-pipe set-up in 2 inch pipe to optimize gains at the lower and mid range RPM ranges where it's most needed.

The installation of this system requires the lower lip of the bumper to be cut to shape to accommodate the exhaust tips as follows. I have made templates for the cut-outs which will be sent with the exhaust system, so any muffler shop can follow this template and know exactly what to do without mucking around too much or damaging your bumper:

The [sign in to see URL] pipe comes start at the cat. converter and ends at joint pipe section splitter where the size of it is reduced to 2inch and router through to both sides of the car to position two small stainless steel mufflers as follows:

Only one additional muffler support bracket needs to be added to the support the right hand side muffler and this supporting bracket will be supplied by Hi-Tech with the system. The installation process of this cat. back system is super easy and can be done right in your own driveway.

Option #2 Straight-Through Single Muffler Cat. Back System

This system has been mainly designed for those on a tight budget and would like to get the full power and torque increase potentials that come with the Twins set-up cat. back system but don't want to spend extra for looks.

It uses exactly the same mid section pipe and ends in a single straight through muffler with an awesome looking exhaust tip. No bumper cutting is required for this option as it uses the same outlet space as the factory muffler. The difference is that this muffler is much smaller than the factory monster one and sounds MUCH quieter than the factory exhaust system as well, which is a bonus for the T31 petrol which can done with a bit of sound reducing components emoticon

The Full Exhaust System replacement which will include ceramic coated extrators and 2 high flow stainless steel cat. converters will be developed early next year and the results will be published shortly after.

In the following report I will go through the dyno runs and results.

This cat back upgrade system sounds great. If price is good (shipped to Greece) I would consider the twin muffler version.
Since I also consider getting the complete bash plate protection system (rear, differential, front plates) and the rear and front styling plates I wanted to ask you if all these 3 components would work fine together?

Thanks again,

Athan

Hi Athan,

I will be test fitting the rear bash plate on an xtrail that has the twin mufflers late December or January, so I will be in a position to answer your question then.

Very quiet in here, did the T31 exhaust upgrade plans die an un-natural death???

Re: Hi-Tech Cat. Back System (T31 CVT Petrol)

It didn't mate. We are still waiting for the dyno run to be done this week, as the dyno place stuffed us around for far too long between being closed for Xmas and New Year and the owner of the place going on holidays in January as well.

I will update this thread as soon as we have confirmed dyno results and the system will then be available to all members.

Re: Hi-Tech Cat. Back System (T31 CVT Petrol)

Hi Guys,

This thread has now been updated to include the before and after dyno runs which has resulted in 10KW extra power at the wheels for the T31 Petrol CVT, which is an awesome result and aligns closely with the 9KW gain for the automatic T30 model.

Pricing will be announced soon.
