Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hi,
I've installed the Eonon G2110F in the dash, but the swc won't work. It is swc compatable with Japanese cars. However I have 1 smaller white plug from the cars harness that has nowhere to go into the new unit and this may be the problem. I'm not sure if its bluetooth or swc.

I have read all 46 pages and I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere, but if I can avoid cutting and joining wires and just use a plug and play cable, that would be much, much prefered. I have used the APP091 ( it is suitable for the T31) cable to get it going for now, but could I use a patch lead as well for the controls and if so, which one?
Basically I'd like to be able to use the radio buttons on the steering wheel. Here are more photos that may help.

Are the swc wires in the small or large white plug? Its a MY10, November series 3 I believe (LED) taillights..
I've been to Autobarn, and called a few places, but they don't seem too interested.
Thanking You in advance.

Maps

Don't bother updating maps on the factory head unit.

A top of the line NAVMAN with 3 yr warranty and lifetime free monthly map updates is under $200.

A Nissan dealer will charge you over $300 for a map update which is already many, many months out of date!

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

I installed the above unit, (2 posts earlier)an Eonon G2110F over a year ago, but now the unit is playing up. When it turns on, the Eonon logo comes on and then the Nissan logo comes on, and thats where it stays. I've tried pressing the reset button with the power and home button with no luck. Any ideas???Thanks.

Update....Fixed it.... emoticon

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hi all,

I have been using a large screen unit from qz industrial for some time and think its great.

As with all tech there are now newer and faster units available.

I'm curious to know if anyone would be interested in these as well?

The reason being is better buy power!

These units are direct plug and play and no special or previous knowledge of car electrical is required.

Once i know the number of people interested I'll get more info.

Cheers,
Tom

Re: Head unit bought from overseas

Can anyone comment on how these head units bought from overseas like the ones you order online would cope with the extreme heat in the car in Australia. Eg: when you car is parked in the sun on a 40 degree day.

Do these Android Head Units cope with the heat ?
Any feedback from all the members here who use after market head units would be appreciated.
cheers

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hi Sed,

The units I have bought work very well in the ozzie heat.

Must admit I have only had two in 12 months, and the only reason I bought the new unit was to have output to an amp and DAB+ radio.

Both units came from different suppliers and had no issues at all.

The only gripe i have with them is the reflection on the screen.
This was sorted by an anti glare screen cover which was cheap on ebay and just cut to size with a guillotine.

cheers,
Tom

The below units are the two main types now available.

Most are now available with Android 7.1 operating system, which makes them reasonably fast and easy to operate.

Re:

My concern/question with these things is are they compatible with all the latest and greatest gimmickry on the current model? As in the around view camera, etc?

If anyone has an answer for that one, I'm all ears. I'll be pinging the local dealer about it as well next time ours goes in. I kind of expect that the gizmos are small metal boxes/modules tucked in behind the head unit and simply tell whatever is in front of them what to show/do. Hoping that's the case, but not expecting.

Not that the current one is at all terrible, it's actually very good and as up to date as we require it to be but in about a year I expect it to struggle with the navigation part as it'll be about 10,000km away from where it's meant to be.

Re:

An update from a few years back.

The kitchen sink GPS unit started playing up a year or so ago. The screen would not illuminate with graphics on headunit mode (GPS was fine), the screen would just fade slowly to grey over a few seconds. oddly my friend bought the same unit and his is still going good.

I ended up fitting the sony axv100 unit with apple carplay and android auto, it was on sale for just over $300, works great! I also replaced the rear camera as the first one stopped working too. I found another one that replaces the license plate light so it looks factory.

Cheers
