Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Without sounding like an advertisement for koason I am installing 2 of these units into a vy and a vx commodore over the next few week so it will be interesting to see if I have the same wiring problems with these looms as I an other people have had with the x-trail looms. They were only purchased this week so according to the previous post they should be ok.

Re:

I think the wiring problem is specific to the xtrail wiring loom of the Koason units.

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

This post almost exactly matches what I want to do. Can i ask, why did 'steve50' on page 24 connect the blue cable from the antenna adapter to the blue cable labelled 'sub'? did he just need a power source and any would do?

thanks,

jason

Hi Jason,I connected the sub wire as I needed a wire with power for the antenna as I have no plans to put a sub in it worked out fine.I assume you can use any acc power supply wire.

Re:

Steve50, is he now selling different units for specific vehicles or are you just fitting the "nissan" version?

Cheers

No just universal fitting units which by the looks of them are the same.

Ah, thanks. Found them, couldnt see them before. He says to let him know the car and he will load up the right logo. It would be interesting to see if this is user doable, so you can put in your own logo (presumably the file is a specific format). I would consider getting another unit for my other car.

Cheers

Hi
Ok I am collecting my Xtrail on Monday and just ordered a Koason unit, next is a reverse camera, not sure to go for the number plate light one or not , looks neater but reading here seems there a bit more involved cabling wise ?

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Koason GPS Antenna Placement
Hi Guys,
Since my friend has installed his Koason, he has been unable to play a CD from start to finish without it hanging and displaying DISC ERR. He removed the unit from the dash, removed the top cover, checked for anything loose or binding. With the top cover still off, he managed to play more of a CD than it had before and over the period of a couple of hours, it would gradually play more and more. It then dawned on him that he had attached the GPS antenna to the top cover as other people had done to save a bit of time. The magnet in the GPS antenna is extremely strong and with the reader for the CD / DVD being just under the cover, was unduly affecting the read. The laser pick up is controlled by a very small stepper motor which uses very small amounts of magnetism for drive. Plonk a very large magnetic field on top it and you have a recipe for something to go wrong.
Some people may have their GPS sitting on top of the unit and haven't experienced any problems, maybe the luck of the draw. Save yourself the hassle, and mount the antenna in the top left corner of the glove compartment with a hole to feed the coax and connector through.

 Cheers
   John
