Re: the latest

Hi Adam

Reply from Koason tells me that the W+1 wire is for wheel controls and connects to ACC.
So I guess if you join the head wire you cut off (W+1) and join it to the Illumi wire as well that may solve your problem.
The original wire from the lights caused the unit to operate ok, (All 12v Pos) so no fdamage can be done.
You may then reprogramme to Johns suggestion.
regards
Les

Re: Kitchen Sink GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hi Adam, Les and All,
The W+1 wire is to enable the steering wheel controls. On my harness this wire had a connector in the middle of it and a label saying "Connect only if using steering controls". By what the both of you have said, this connector is no longer there. The main reason I bought and recommended the Koason unit to others was the fact that it did enable the Wheel Controls to work. Cutting this wire on a Series 3 and 4 with wheel controls defeats this purpose of buying it.
A friend at work has a unit arriving in the next couple of days and it is our plan to connect it directly to my Xtrail with my harness and check it's operation. We will then check the operation with the supplied harness and if any difference is found, will look into the harness wiring very carefully. I will post a diagram of what mine is and how the supplied harness is currently with changes which need to be made. This problem is only very recent as Ryan (RJHARV) did not experience anything like this. It maybe as simple as the factory has left the wheel setup in such a way that it is causing the issue and this is why Ryan and myself suggested clearing the setup in the menu. It is a good unit for the money and I'm sure we can cure the current problem and if it is a wiring issue, send this info to Koason to get it rectified. I'm sure we will get to the bottom of it.

Regards
John

Re: Kitchen Sink GPS/DVD & Multimedia Head units reviews & options

Hi John

My W+1 wire is the one that went to the lights (Pin 9 on the xtrail connector). The two indicated for steering wheel were marked W-, one male connectore and one female. These are to be connected for SWC.

Best of luck getting an answer from Koason as I have sent three emails asking for the use of each of the terminal going to the power plug irrespective of the wire names and colors, that way we may have an idea where they changed the standard. I cant see how the Illumi wire is ACC controlled but it works for me!

regards
Les

Hi John and Adam

Finally got a reply from Koason as follow

relating to pins on the connector to the xtrail harness connector(koason part)

Pin 7 RED is connected to ACC ........which conforms with xtrail wiring
Pin 6 RED is W+1 wire and connects to A steering wheel switch and includes a 1k resistor (I assume it is in the shrink wrap)
Pin 15 Yellow is SWC neg supply (As per xtrail wiring)
Pin 16 Pink is other SWC wire direct.

Based on this I would bet that they have mixed the RED wires (6 and 7)

Pin 9 is also a RED but a smaller size.

Hope this helps yours with SWC.

As mine works I wont be doing any changes but will be intersted to see if this helps

Hi Les,
Thanks very much for the info and pictures you have posted, it will help narrow down the search. Unfortunately the mate's unit still hasn't arrived, but everything crossed for today. It will be a straight forward process of comparing it to mine, shouldn't take much at all. If there is a couple back to front (6 and 7?), I only hope you can get the wire out with the pin and not have to do a cut and splice. You've had more luck with Koason than I did when I asked about the USB cable coming out of the expansion harness.

John

Checked the Koason site tonight, now priced at 285USD + 75USD DHL delivery which works out at about $335 Aust. Might order one this weekend, just trying to figure out if it is worth an extra $40 for the TV option. Will be fitting the reversing camera.

Re:

If you are getting the tv version, the supplied antenna is hopeless, if its still like the one that came in my friends unit, small ~10cm with magnetic base. Needs to be attached to a chunk of flat metal, as it appears to be a ground plane type.

Cheers

Koason ISO Harness Wiring Error

Hi Les, Adam and Koason buyers,
In the recent weeks, we have had three Koason units exhibit strange behaviour out of the box. Les in Adelaide got his to work by disconnecting the W- wires at the bullet connector. The one we have been waiting for, finally arrived today. Straight out of the box we plugged it in with it's supplied harness into my Series 3. It would not turn on until we put the parkers on, the on off button didn't seem to do much, all in line with what Les and Adam experianced. We removed it's harness and plugged it in using mine and there was another going Koason as it should. The problem lies with the harness. We compared the colours leaving the Iso connector and they were pin for pin correct. The colours leaving the Black Koason connector were also correct. What gives! The Red and Pink leaving the Iso Connector are joined in a piece of heatshrink with a 1K resistor, then this joins to the Orange/Black from the Koason. The brown (illumin) joins the Red Green from the Koason. Unfortunately these two connections have been crossed and the faulty harness has the Iso Red / Pink going to the Red / Green and the Iso Brown is going to Orange / Brown.
We looked at swapping the wires by removing the pins, but after half an hour gave up on the idea. This is not where the fault is anyway, so the best I can suggest is cut the Red / Orange and the Red / Green just before the heatshrink join and join them to the correct mate. There is vey little current involved here so even twisting them together then adding insulation tape will suffice.

I have included two colour drawings, the Incorrect and the Correct, so you can see what it might look like before and after. When I get a chance tomorrow, I will email Koason with our findings and see what they say.

Regards
John

Koason Update
 Hi guys,
I received this email back from Koason regarding the wiring error.

 Hi John,

Many thanks for your email.

Yes, we have found such problem recently as one Australian buyer have email us about wiring harness problem. And we finally helped him solving his problem.

also We have asked him to tell other buyer(as he said he have contacted other buyers with same problem) about how to solve problem.

From the last week, the newly produced products have amended this problem on wiring harness.

We will update the news about this problem and update it onto our website for this solution.

Thanks again for your info.

Kind regards

Good to see their response and that they were already on to it. Probably best to check any new harness in the immediate future before installing them, save yourself some time and pain.

A story with a good ending for a change.

Update at 09/03/2012 21:50 EDT. Koason have added a News item in the right hand column of their home page regarding this. They also did a copy and paste of my email and went on to say they were also looking at the problem at the time I sent the email. The resemblance of the pictures I posted to the ones featured on their site is amazing.

John
