Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS review
The VMS unit plugs in direct they have an adaptor cable from the unit. The Brash Imports terminates in ISO connectors but uses the exact same cable as the VMS so I can get the vehicle specific cable from the local VMS distributor however I found an adapter KRAM ISO2CAR Cable for Nissan & Subaru from www.strike.com.au a better option. The Dig_Options terminated in pre 2007 Nissan connectors

Regarding the 3.5V - 5V DC step-up converter, you could try this simple circuit
As there's a 12V on tap I was just going to use a 7805.....

Is there anything that you can buy off the shelf to do this?

Re: "Kitchen Sink" GPS review
The Touring series are pretty much the same as the VMS in dash unit in terms of the GPS and reversing camera side of things. One thing I did find quite annoying whilst I have been away is the daily need to reset the VMS unit when it locks up due to our holiday accommodation not being "on the maps". I'll update you with the response from VMS, it will probably be "thats a new one on us" as per usual. I would never spend the amount VMS demands on a GPS if another unit fitted in the Navara. Phillipa's chap Chinese copy (out of the same factory) works just as well and the extras that VMS "gives" you are not worth the extra cost in my opinion.
