Welded oxygen sensor boss.
Well I have just had the oxy sensor welded back in to 3 way cat, as advised by nissan, I never knew of the recall and they dont want to know about it. after this the engine light came on, my local mechanic ran it through his scanner and everything came up fine, I thought the oxy sensor would be the prob, but it is switching from lean to rich etc an all other functions come up ok, so now I have it booked in to nissan this arvo to get it scanned again.
What I want to know if anyone has fitted the Hurricane mild steel header with the separate cat, I believe it can be done for about $1000, and does this then work ok with the xxy engine management system.

Re: Welded oxygen sensor boss.
Kevin,
There was indeed a recall by Nissan for O2 sensor boss breakage and it is mentioned HERE
Check your VIN with the affected range and if it falls within the affected range, Nissan must service your car under that recall free of charge and don't accept any other arguments.
Fitting extractors made of mild steel will bring many disadvantages, one of those is engine bay heat which will impact negatively on the fuel consumption as well as air-con performance and the performance of the car itself.
Even with stainless steel extractors if they're not ceramic coated, the heat dispensation is far too high in the engine bay as I have experienced first hand with the the very first design of the Hi-Tech extractors which I was testing.
You could use thermal wrap around the extractors and that is an option you should consider if you want to get the mild steel extractors to solve the problem at hand.

Re: Welded oxygen sensor boss.
Hi Kevin,
clearing the ECU codes won't achieve much if there is indeed a crack in the O2 sensor boss. Have they at least checked the exhaust manifold for any leaks coming from the base of the O2 sensor?
This fault is not that scary anyway and shouldn't cause you to loose faith in the exy at all. The number of xtrail owners who had major problems with their xtrail is not that huge compared to other car makes and we have more than one member who have bought their 2nd and 3rd xtrail because they love it so much and couldn't find anything out there that can match it.
I believe we do have a poll in place like the one you asked about. Check the general section of the forum.
P.S. You can buy mine if you want, as soon as a T31 with hyper roof rails comes to Australia

Re: Welded oxygen sensor boss.
Exactly Dave, it wouldn't be a productive or interesting forum if everything in it was praise for the exy and how good we feel driving it.
Every vehicle would have its share of problems and we try and discuss all of them in regards to the xtrail in an open manner. This doesn't mean at all that it's unreliable.
