great sandy national park / beach area

first time we have run a event ..................This outing will be on the 18th of October 2009,
Outline of run follows , car ferry from Tewantin across the Noosa river, $6 per car each way, short drive to beach access, tide times for the day are as follows
High tide 7.43am , low tide 13.56 ,
Plan to be on beach about 10 / and being a out going tide should give us some nice sand to drive on , if water has not gone down enough we can give it a go and test our cars or it may be a good time for morning tea and a chat while it goes out a little further , we will drive and stop at as we wish, take in some nice views on the way , there is some nice steep sand dunes to slide down so bring your cardboard or body boards etc , a bit of fun for the kids and not so small kids, ( hehehheheh ) we will also stop at the coloured sands for a walk around , a good place to take some nice pics etc , we then will continue along beach towards double island point / light house , there are 2 inland tracks along the way , one is freshwater road , it’s a 15km track which is made up of soft sand / and rough gravel most of the way , it is two way traffic , ( just ) having to pull over to pass others .
Have been on this track and had no real problems at that time .
This track comes out about 5 or so km from rainbow beach township ,
The other track in closer to double island point / light house , have not been on it so will have to find out more about it as time draws near, this track is called leisha track and comes out in wide bay beach area , u drive a long this beach to rainbow beach township , however along this beach you need to drive around a rocky outcrop which leads onto rainbow beach , now a lot of you may have seen news footage through the years of all sorts of 4wds/softroaders coming to grief here ,and taking a huge under water swim, may not be for us ,
that’s the basic outline of the trip with more info to follow as time gets closer . Please add your names to list if you wish to join us , the more the merrier .
Cheers …….

Drats ! I'll be down there doing that in Sept around 14th to 17th as part of our trip down to Brisvegas. Unfortunately we'll be back in Darwin when you guys run this outing.

Have a great time time anyways .. maybe I'll have some updated information on the state of the tracks by then in preparation for your outing. Oh and we'll be overnighting a couple days throughout Fraser too. Expect pics emoticon

G'day Rob & Wendy

Where are you proposing we meet up at and at what time? If it's good for you, the Shell servo @ Nudgee might be a good place?

Am really looking forward to getting away from the city and the rat-race.

EDIT
Rose is unfortunately unable to attend this trip, so it will just be me

Re: great sandy national park / beach area

Hey all,

Just a bit of heads up for your trip there. We were there today, and the lack of rain combined with everyone on holidays has made the cut ins to the beach real "fun". We did the sand driving course today, and got bogged pretty much every time. The ruts are deep, and the crazys come flying down the road at you..

Having said that, we had a great day and learned heaps! I would suggest going past the first cut in to the second one though. Didn't seem as bad to get through. I hope you guys have a great run, the beach looked great!

The attached pic is probably not the best ad for our beloved Exy's emoticon emoticon

Cheers,
David & Sonja

Re: great sandy national park / beach area

G,day all, have to agree with Dave , had a great drive on the hard sand when we finally got out of the big ruts, and just bombed it out of the second cut to get back, but we had so much fun losing the Exys virginity.
