Cruise control will not engage

Hello all,

My x-trail no longer engages cruise control. It worked one day and suddenly not the next. It will let me set the speed and confirms that with the Cruise green light but when I press the button to activate it nothing happens.

The owners manual says that if anything is wrong I should get a flashing green light to indicate something wrong but I get nothing.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Re: Cruise control will not engage

Hi David,

I noticed from your intro post you have a 2004 Xtrail so that makes it a Series 2 T30.
It would be nice to either have your model shown in your signature or included with your question so that others might be able to help you better.

So in regards to your question ...
What speed were you trying to set ?
The cruise normally does not work below 40kph.

Re: Cruise control will not engage

You could look at the things which deactivate cruise mode i.e. Brake Pedal Sensor, Clutch Pedal Sensor. If you are saying the Cruise light comes on but when you try and engage Coast or Resume buttons nothing happens it could simply mean either the buttons aren't contacting or the pedals are detecting movement. You can't enable Cuise mode with either pedal depressed slightly. All this is assuming you have a Clutch ofcourse else check the Brake Pedal sensor. Give it a clean out with some contact cleaner, check spring is working fine by seeing if there is any play on the pedal at home position. If the pedal sags down slightly it will trip the cruise control sensor to turn off. I know on mine it takes the slightest of movement to disengage the cruise control with either pedal. See how that goes for ya.

Re: Cruise control will not engage

Thanks Kev, I will keep that in mind.

I am aware that it will not activate under 40kph and I have tryed at 60, 80 and 100.

I do have a clutch and I will take a look at the contacts.

Cheers

Thanks for your help it was the button not touching the pedal in its home position.

I adjusted the rod which holds the button slightly and works fine.

That's the beauty of being part of this forum. So many helpful and knowledgeable members and one can always bet on finding the right answer here!

I sometimes wonder why the Nissan mechanics and staff can't think the same way we do here on our forum....maybe because it's not so profitable for Nissan to have good thinkers like our members emoticon
