Re: Fast Moving Fuel Gauge
I reckon it's normal based on the litres it's taking when you fill-up. Since I got my exy new, I always wondered why the needle moves faster to empty after the second half tank rather than the first half tank mark and it only needs to be a bit less than 3/4 for the low fuel light to come on. But I have also learned to judge my remaining fuel after that low fuel light comes on, I have driven approx. 50-60kms on the low fuel light and it has taken 56-58 litres when I filled-up.
I don't do this often, as I don't want the fuel pump to suck all that dirt from the bottom of the tank, but I just wanted to find out how accurate the fuel needle is.

Re: Fast Moving Fuel Gauge
IMO its a bit overrated. I have driven many of my vehicles to the point where the fuel light is on every week/fortnight and no issues...... probably only an issue if no-one ever takes a car below 1/2 then the driver changes and sucks 100K of fuel grot up all at once, or a bad fill....
Not such an issue getting ~700ísh kms a tank out of the XTrail, but the Mazda 3MPS I had, would get up to about 500km a tank, and would always be on the fuel light to/from work (a 50km round trip on the highway/no servos)...... similar with the wifes corolla before that that I used to drive, then a 100km round trip.
Seen the fuel light in the Xy a couple of times in ~5K too..... also done it lots in the GU Patrol.

Re: Fast Moving Fuel Gauge
the way i look at it is you fill it to the top of the filler neck so until you use the fuel to get some air in the tank to move the sender it wont budge and also the gap between full and 3/4 full and 3/4 full and 1/2 full are different. so the needle moves slower between full and 3/4 full and 1/4 full and empty and moves faster in the centre section. like on my old vw the gauge is split into even segmentsand the first is F | 1/2 | 1/4 | R | E (full reserve and empty) so the needle actually moves slow to start and then accelerates the less fuel you have.
