Re: Dronus (Andrew) NSW Visit (Trip Confirmed 15/8/2009)

Personally, I haven't been all the way around this track/road. I only have been on the Shipley road building a house there, and only know my way to the lookout along the Shipley road.
I doubt that I'll get a chance to drive it before the trip due to work.

If we have a map, I reckon we should just wing it.

Re: Dronus (Andrew) NSW Visit (Trip Confirmed 15/8/2009)

I will have the GPS with OziExplorer & maps loaded. I just had a look but because the maps are topographical, they don't necessarily have all the local details (street names etc) and even though I've been up that way dozens of times, I still get all the suburbs confused... I can't find Glenbrook on the topo maps...

Will keep looking...

And I can't find the old pre-organising thread that was about 6 pages long - it had more details on the meetup and proposed destination points...

The links for the destination and meet-up points were moved from the old thread to the first post in this thread. Click on them.

Re: Dronus (Andrew) NSW Visit (Trip Confirmed 15/8/2009)

I meant the actual discussion from the other thread...

Anyway, I have found Shipley Rd, it's just south of Blaxland Railway Station, and there does appear to be extensive tracks in that region... I can't seem to find where I went camping several years ago (I might once we drive down there) but there's no need to try and find that particular location as it all looks pretty interesting (with heaps of creek crossings) from what I can tell on the topo maps.

I'll make sure I've copied all the maps from the PC to the GPS tomorrow, so I don't get a blank screen when I get to the end of one of the maps emoticon

I remember when I first got OziExplorer, I am sure I found a "short-cut" from somewhere opposite Wickettywar Rd (Hampton?) which went through Megalong Valley, and came out to Blackheath, but the few times I drove past Wickettywar Rd, I could never find the track - it's possible it might be away from the main road, at the back of private property, and therefore not doable, but that's not saying there's no fun to be had exploring the tracks from Blackheath end!

I also should still have (they've been there for over a year!) printed maps of the area in the car as "backup" which I will pass onto someone else to read/navigate.

That would be Blackheath Station, we turn left over the railway crossing.

Glenbrook is just at the top of Lapstone Hill (M4) and the info centre is about 500meters on the left before the first set of lights.

There is no shortcut between Hampton and Blackheath as I have tried to find, I am building a house there and we have tried numerous routes to save time on the trip. All other tracks we have tried end at a closed gate, all private property.

Wicketty War Rd goes between Jenolan Caves Rd, north side of the quarry and comes out at Little Hartley.

Hi Guys,

Noel (NPC73) and family arrived to Sydney last night and might be joining us in this trip as well. Noel came around to my place this arvo and I told him about this trip.

Very cool. Sounds like we have quite a few people possibly attending!

My lesson for today while leaving the city to head out to the 'burbs was:

There is a street in Sydney called "Oxford Street" that is an interesting place to get stuck in peak hour traffic. Sydney also seems to have a distinct lack of BP service stations.
