Trailer wiring harness T31 Ti

Hi to all,
Does anyone know where the BLUE wire in the trailer harness flat plug goes to?
I want to install electric brake controller to vehicle for caravan brakes. I have found this spare cable in the harness, but where does it go to?

I connected mine to AUX as this was the most logical place - although I could be wrong.
My thoughts was that this is for a caravan which uses constant power - once again I could be wrong emoticon

Re: Trailer wiring harness T31 Ti

There is no constant power to any trailer due to the fact that the Xy isolates the trailer when it is switched off.
No tail lights nothing.
Not even the indicators flash on the trailer when locking the Xy.

The only way around this is if an auto electrician bypasses the relay and sends a permanant feed from the battery.

If the standard colour code has been used the the blue wire is for your trailer brakes.

It should be wired through to pin 5 which is the 3rd from the left looking at the socket

See here for more details

Re: Trailer wiring harness T31 Ti

Thank you for your response Alan,
do you know where at the front of the vehicle that the BLUE wire comes out?
Fuse box? Under bonnet, or under steering wheel?
I put a cable tracer on it but could not locate it anywhere.
Of course I did the wrong thing with the cable tracer, and put one leg of it to earth, chasis.
So I found lots of suspicious outcomes, not the one colored blue.
I'll try again using one of the indicator cables, at least I know where they are headed.

Mike.

I'm not sure of where that wire would go in the main harness. My answer was for the actual trailer harness, but I'll look through the other info I have and see if I can locate where it wires to. It's probably just a fluke that Nissan have used a blue wire in the main harness and that joins to the trailer harness but you've got me interested in finding out where it goes now...

My guess is that this blue wire goes all the way to the brake switch above the brake pedal.

Re: Trailer wiring harness T31 Ti

I have just purchased the Tekonsha P3 brake controller and are about to fit it to my T31.
The brake control wire is to be connected to the brake switch behind the brake pedel, there are two switches with multiple wires attached.
Can somebody who has fitted a brake controller, please tell me which (colour) wire to connect to ?

Any ideas for dash mounting locations for the unit would help too !!

Regards
Wayne

Re: Trailer wiring harness T31 Ti

I positioned mine underneath the front panel next to my left leg. Seems ok there. Wired the battery lines back behind the centre console and through the grommet on the passenger side. Have the same problem as to where exactly to wire the stop light indicator, so if anyone has an answer to this could they please post a reply. Perhaps someone who has had their brake controller professionally fitted could have a look and even take some photos. I am also interested as to how to run the blue wire back to the trailer attachement plug.

Got the multimeter out and checked the brake pedal switch. There are four wires on the white connector (which controls the brake lights). Purple, pink, green and red. The purple one carries 12V from the battery via the fuse. I think the pink wire is the most likely to be the correct wire to connect to, or it could be the red wire. Tried getting the multimeter probes onto the switch but its very confined under there and couldnt manage it. Will have to cut the wires and test then one by one to find the correct wire. The wiring diagram says its number 2 but doesnt say what coulor it is or have a numbered diagram of the plug, so it will have to be done by trial and error unless someone can provide the correct information before I try it over the next few days.
