Re: AkaZulu's Exy
Well it's official. Completed install of K&N air filter and reset the ECU. Idle is down to 900 with and without aircon. Purrs like a kitten. Whilst changing air filters I cleaned out the catchment tray in the air box and found my long lost plastic locking plug from the front of my air intake tube which has two locking clasps normally holding it in place. Thankfully it didn't get sucked into the engine with a torn air filter or something.
Took the Exy for a spin, loving the new Twins and now with the K&N installed she sounds much more alive. Its the first time since Tuesday I've actually been able to give it some boot in the fast zone since the other half has been taking her to work everyday.
I simply can't believe the oomph she's got in the 2,000 to 4,000 rpm range.
Dropped a few gears to get some explosive acceleration and whammo that sound up around 5,000 rpm is awesome now. Not to mention the G force is cool.
More to come...

Re: AkaZulu's Exy
Spent most of the weekend fitting out the new Touchscreen all in one gizmo double din doodaah. Will post a series of pics on the new toy when I have completely fitted it perfect. As it turned out the standard factory mount brackets were slightly out of whack and had to drill some new mount holes. In my rush they weren't completely level between left and right and as a result the unit sits slightly on a slant and one edge is further back than the other edge. Hardly noticeable from a distance though
Very impressed at the quality and functionality of the unit. Set up a media centre 60Gb HDD which contains DivX movies and a million MP3s in drivers compartment which is portable. The Nav unit is running WinCE IGO8 software as has the ability to use all the OziExplorer maps also, downloading those later to test. At the moment the IGO8 is very impressive. The other half is very impressed also as the old 6 stacker was showing its age. Oh yeah its freaky with the Bluetooth phone pairing, never really played with one of those before. Weird sensation talking to the Exy.
If anyone wants pics of the T30 Series 1 dash coming apart I'm glad to post them up. It was so easy once you found the tricky bits. I probably could dismantle a T30 dash in under 5 mins now

Re: AkaZulu's Exy
Well here's some pics of the new head unit I installed. Some pics are a little poor quality but overall not too bad. All in all I absolutely love the new toy, it can do everything I want it to do and then some ! Enjoy the pics.
Occasionally the Nissan logo comes on when changing modes or initially powering device on but it was so hard to get a pic of it. From ignition to GPS plotting takes about 15 seconds or so.
I mounted the GPS receiver under the cowl behind the instrument cluster, there is actually a factory mount for one in there who'd thought ! A bit of 3M double sided and hey presto works a treat. Haven't wired any other devices like the external AV devices since I don't have any at the moment, like headrest screens or whatever. I have the iPod connector sitting in the glove box so when we go for a long drive it sits nice and tucked away in a leather case, all functions for iPod can be done through head unit and remote control. Sounds heaps better than original 6 stacker. TV works but need a aerial loom and can't be bothered until I find one cheap or make one up myself. Has ability to hook up reverse camera but don't need one just yet.
The brand is a no name, eBay special and it comes from OEM manufacturers from China or Hong Kong which distribute head units to all major car companies.
Sorry it has taken a while to get pics up here but finally I had a chance this morning. Might take some night time shots too since it looks way cool at night.
Catch yas.

Re: AkaZulu's Exy
Looks nice Kian and sits nice and flush too. What sort of software has the GPS got on it and is it accurate?

Re: AkaZulu's Exy
It uses IGO8 GPS software built in via WinCE 5.0. I can use any OziExplorer map also i.e. Sat images, Topography maps, Off Road maps. I may play with that when I manage to get both OziExplorer porgrams for my PC and the WinCE versions. Apparently you need to plot and align all your maps on the PC first then download them to the SD card for use with WinCE version.
Where I have the receiver mounted I get a clean signal even under the carport. Speedo and tripmeters are really accurate also. Tested out the speed camera thing and the speed indicator was spot on. My speedo was slightly out since the larger tyres so overall its damned accurate. I am finally converted to 2009 circa technology in the Exy woot !!!
Its a standard double din form factor so I see no reason why it won't fit the T31. The only thing I need to do was modify, using a rasp needle file, the side mount plates from the old 6-stacker. That enabled me to move the unit any way I wanted on the mount and then screw it down tight in a spot I was happy with.
The Nissan logo thing sold me Looking for an X-Trail animated logo next but at the moment everything is sweet.
