The VIAS works by having different "tuned" lengths of intake runner for different airflows so that the pulses of air pressure created as each valve shuts helps this small air pressure pulse "force-feed" air into the next cylinder. A shorter length equates to shorter pulse intervals, typically at higher rpm's. So if the butterflies are left open, then the length of the intake runners will be shorter which will be more tuned for higher rpm's and effect the low rpm performance when the turbo has not spooled up yet.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Fri, 17 Jul 2009 11:10:23 +0000 Re: Intake butterflies opening when on boost/WOT?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030396,from=rss#post2030396https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030396,from=rss#post2030396I'd think taking them out, even with a turbo, will give you worse low down performance than leaving them in. I'd probably just disable them from opening. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Eggins)Fri, 17 Jul 2009 05:30:15 +0000 Re: Intake butterflies opening when on boost/WOT?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030359,from=rss#post2030359https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030359,from=rss#post2030359Thanks kev, i was thinking along the same sort of lines, because the air is under pressure, they wont make much difference at all... Most of the sentra guys have taken the valves out completely, some left them in, and some have hooked them up to piggy-back engine computers to make them open at certain times. but then again, the gains are minimal for the time and effort required. as for me, i think ill take them out.nondisclosed_email@example.com (hiimkam)Thu, 16 Jul 2009 14:05:32 +0000 Re: Intake butterflies opening when on boost/WOT?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030357,from=rss#post2030357https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030357,from=rss#post2030357I actually think that the butterflies (or VIAS) will be made unnecessary with your turbo installation Cam. You may actually be better disconnecting it altogether. What have the sentra guys done ? I posted something about the way the VIAS works but cannot find it. It you are interested in knowing more, let me know and I'll look into it again.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Thu, 16 Jul 2009 13:39:29 +0000 Intake butterflies opening when on boost/WOT?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030243,from=rss#post2030243https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2030243,from=rss#post2030243Hey guys, stumbled on a pretty cool idea... Im thinking about modifying the secondary intake butterflies (SIB) so they open when a certain boost pressure is reached. at the moment, they operate under vacuum actuator and an electronic signal from the ecu. what im thinking of doing, is disconnecting the electronic signal, and just using an internal wastegate actuator, so when a certain boost pressure is reached (say, 6psi) the SIBs open. so youd get the sickest little power spike at 5000rpm and would only cost about 80 bucks What do you guys rekon? nondisclosed_email@example.com (hiimkam)Tue, 14 Jul 2009 15:31:16 +0000
