Cracked Mirror - external drivers side
Just before rego I find I have a cracked drivers side external mirror. No idea how it could have happened, but there ya go.
Driving back to Queensland next week and have it booked for rego inspection at my soon to be local mechanic, trying to slip it in before the end of June and beat the increased prices.
He said he probably wouldn't want to pass it (would have to see it first), but might be able to take the broken mirror out and cut another one himself, inexpensively.
Is it possible for him to do this, is it a hard job, or advisable? It will probably be ordinary mirror, not the original type. I would prefer to have the original type of mirror as I have gotten used to it now and quite like it.
If he can't do this, what should I do? I simply don't have the luxury of time to think this thru.
I'm doing a mad scramble at the moment trying to pack up my all my worldly possessions after working all day and going to classes at night, and hoping to get it all packed onto the trailer on Saturday and leave in the afternoon, ha ha
Does anyone have any suggestions? What do new ones cost? How would Nissan fix it?? Should I try to get something from a wrecker, and is there a wreckers in Cairns that might have exxies?

Re: Cracked Mirror - external drivers side
It's not a big job to cut new ones in, but I would try and get a genuine or aftermarket product if I were you.
Maybe you can get them from a member that has changed to LED lenses and wants to get rid of the old ones.
Put an add in the " Wanted to Buy" section.
Either that or buy some of the LED ones from the shop.

Re: Cracked Mirror - external drivers side
Hi Julie,
You can get the mirror lens from the dealer, they cost $55.00 (as I stated in THIS thread) so they're not that expensive. I do believe your mirror is convex type as it is a Series II.

Re: Cracked Mirror - external drivers side
When you've got a dealer like Kerry Automotive in Darwin, and the nearest other dealer is 850km and the next two are both 1600km away - coming back home to the Tableland is a cheap option.
My fuel cost me around $570 Darwin to Yungaburra.
Kerry's were quoting me an 8hour job to check and loctite the butterly screws, at $121 per hour.
At that rate I could afford to both drive back here and get the job done for a normal price!!!
I stopped at Chano Trentins in Atherton on my way in yesterday afternoon. The mirror had arrived, but they'd lost it. I explained I was booked for an inspection the next day and that I'd timed my trip from Darwin around this - so they arranged to airfreight it overnight, which I picked up today and they fitted free of charge. Good service.
