Oh and fish wish, the car is awesome besides the gearbox 👍

If you take one for a drive you would know right away if there is a 'problem' but as a post above said its seems to be very rare for post 2010.

When my gearbox is fixed I'll be selling it to upgrade to a 7 seater due to kids.

Cheers

Hi all an update, they offered 50% of the cost. Stood their ground on it and refused any more.

Not good enough in my mind so I'll be looking to take it further as a 3.5 year old car with 110k needing a new gearbox is just not fair wear and tear.

Re: T31 - CVT Transmission replacement just after 10000kms

The story of my saga was drawn [sign in to see URL] about length of post!!!
1st tried goodwill claim and response was Nissan 25% discount on new CVT and Westpoint Auto Indooroopilly discount labour by $40 per hour.

Amazing that quote of $10, 000 came back as $8830 now reduced to $7179.

After further discussions compiled full complaint (incl over 20 annexes) and submitted to numerous agencies including ACCC, Westpoint Auto, Nissan, Dept Fair Trade etc.

Outcome was no budging from Nissan or Westpoint and Dept Fair Trade could only tell them legislation, but could not force them to do anything. So they suggested QCAT was only avenue.

In the end due to many months drawn out, change of job location requiring increased driving to location without good public transport, home front etc decided only option was to repair it.

This is where I found these wonderful guys Scott and Josh at 'The Transmission Centre' at Underwood QLD. After doing a free diagnostics (not just CVT system) and ordering in replacement Pressure Solenoids they dropped out the valve body and found the major problem.

A valve stuck open affected the Pressure Solenoids that caused the belt to slip and wear away at the cones.

These guys were fantastic taking the time out to not ony run me back and forwards to train station on numerous occassions, but also explain how CVT operates and show/explain all my damaged components.

The belt edge was nearly smooth instead of teethed and cones badly pitted and worn causing belt slippage. They were surprised x-trail was still moving.

The end result was a fully rebuilt CVT at a cost of $3850 with 12 months warranty (I had looked at 2nd hand from wreckers that would have cost similar).

Have to take x-trail (that is running great) to them tomorrow so they can quickly inspect to make sure no leaks and they are still happy with their fantastic work.

Highly recommend them to others that unfortunately experience same saga I went through, but would suggest going straight to QCAT (for QLD based x-traillers) after goodwill response is received.

Re: T31 - CVT Transmission replacement just after 10000kms

Forgot to mention while they were working on CVT they noticed RHF Inner CV boot was split so while removed took it to a specialist to get that fixed for me as well before putting x-trail back together again.

Amazing customer service I received from them.

Re:

Hi Guys,

Just took my 2007 X-Trail into Nissan for 140km service, I also asked them to look into why the the car was revving intermittently and sometime lost acceleration from stationary. Was told the chain in the CVT was damaged beyond repair and would need to be replaced. Same story as many here - would cost $9000+.

Could any of you kind folk advise me what steps to take next? They are trying to get me to buy the new part or trade the car for a new one. I've looked after my X-trail and dont want to part with it... What do I do?

Thank you
