Paint on wheels

Guys, need your input on this.

The problem: I drove home today as usual, parked my car and got out. Then noticed some idiot spilled a huge pool of paint on the street outside my home and my wheels on the left hand side is smeared with paint all over.

What i did: I took out a couple litres of water and tried to wash off the paint from the wheels. Not being very successful, i took the car to the nearest car wash and spent 50bucks on a car wash after explaining to the attendant about the paint.

The guy at the car wash told me that it was a good thing i brought my car in quick and the paint was still quite wet. They were able to get most of the paint off and the remaining bits should come off after a few drives.

Anyone had a similar experience and any other steps i can take? I hope this paint problem doesn't affect the tyre's effectiveness.

Re: Paint on wheels

General house paint whether its acrylic or enamel will eventually come off tyres over a short time.
So long as there isn't too much on the side wall of the tyre.

If it was chrome paint, I'd leave it emoticon

Can you imagine driving around with chrome tyres emoticon emoticon

Seriously though, you'll be OK as house paints come off easily and you could have used terbs on the wheels to wipe them clean. Just make sure that none of the paint is stuck to the body of the car.

Re: Paint on wheels

It is not advisable to use the turpentine on the tyres as it deteriorates rubber. Especially since some "turps" bottles are actually filled with a petroleum-based solvent.
Any cleaner you use on the tyres to remove the paint should be washed off completely with very soapy warm-hot water to remove all traces of it.

Re: Paint on wheels

great stuff, thanks guys. The side walls look alright, it's just the treads i was worried about and basically, the paint affecting the tyres' grip..

maybe it's a good excuse for me to fix up my rims and tyres.. emoticon

Re: Paint on wheels

If it is only the treads you want to get the paint out of then you might be able to get a wire brush to it.
