Speakers in rear tailgate

Just wondering if anyone has installed speakers in the rear tailgate.
I once had and VK commie s/w that i install 6x9 speakers in the tailgate for when we were out camping. Lifted the tailgate up for access to the esky emoticon and it also had blinker lights for good lighting

Re: Speakers in rear tailgate

As you can see HERE, the T30 rear tailgate isn't deep enough to accept any sort of speakers.

Re: Speakers in rear tailgate

I would not advise it even if you mounted them somehow.
The shock to the speaker magnets and cones with the closing force of the tailgate would cause damage by possibly cracks in the magnets or splits in the speaker cones.

Re: Speakers in rear tailgate

gotta disagree with you guys sorry emoticon Have thought about surface mounted speakers in the boot. Pack them out with spacers and pull the wiring via the flex conduit in the tailgate...
It will reduce bootspace...but if that didnt matter it could be done. No different to slamming a normal door I would think...

Re: Speakers in rear tailgate

I was thinking along the lines of using mdf board and having a small spare open grill in the middle to help with the air flow of the speakers. eg 3 inch hole.
I had no probs with the VK wagan setup with the speakers, and with the amount of different speakers on sale these days i think i will be able to find something that will do the job im looking for.
Dave i done the same thing with the wiring through the flex conduit and it work fine

Big difference Dave I think.
The speakers in the door are near the front where the hinge is so they do not move fast at all when the door is closed.
In the tailgate, they are at the furthest edge from the hinges so the speed at closing would give a rapid stop with the resulting G-forces on the magnet and cone.

X2.

At least there's one advantage - the door would close every time due to the added weight of the speakers - how many times do you have to re-shut the back door because it doesn't shut properly the first time? I hate slamming doors, but our back door always needs extra effort to shut! Perhaps the striker needs adjusting...
