waterfall noise behind dash

Hi all, To cut a long story short I will just say that when getting my driving lights fitted, the place drilled through my condenser and radiator, aaarrrrggghhh !!!
All is fixed now, new genuine parts (after hassling) but since then I have been experiencing a sound , when starting the car, like someone taking a leak behind my dash , mmmm, strange. Has anyone experienced this? No water is entering the car, not sure if it is the condenser or radiator, Nissan is stumped !. Can anyone help?. emoticon

Your post has been moved to this section of the forum as it has nothing to do with forum rules and regulations where you had it initially posted emoticon

Could you be abit more specific? You said it's when you start the car - is it only when the a/c is already turned on, for example?

Re: waterfall noise behind dash

If they drilled through your radiator then they may have needed to top up the coolant, with my old car whenever I had the coolant replaced I too got this waterfall sound from behind the dash .
I think it's just an air-lock, try running the car with the heat control all the way over to the hottest position for a few K's, this should flush the air-lock out.

Peter.

It would be an air lock. The sound you are hearing is when the water eventually passes through the empty steel air con hose, the water being cooled rapidly.
Just like when you dip hot metal into a bucket of water.

my xtrail does this every now and then but i only notice it if its really quite, i think its just the water flowing though the heater core, maybe it drains abit when sitting? not sure but im not concerned about it

Re: waterfall noise behind dash

Firstly sorry for putting this post in the wrong spot Jalal, must be frustrating , I have tried starting the xtrail in the morning with and without the A/C on, same noise happens, quite a loud water trickle sound right behind dash. Cooch t31 are you talking about an airlock in the A/C system or radiator? Anyway thanks all for the help, I will try the airlock trick tomorrow I will run the car with the heater on , when its 42 degrees, sounds like fun !! Can the airlock cause overheating? or damage anything?, I am just about to do a 4 day trip to the mountains. Thanks again,
  emoticon

Re: waterfall noise behind dash

Thanks for picking me up on that.
I meant to say heater core.
When you try to remove the air lock, the car doesn't need to be running straight away, just turn the dial to hot and then start the car to circulate the coolant.
Also, look for a hose ( in engine bay) that is the highest of the cooling system and remove from its place. Then replace when no air comes out.
Air rises after all.

Re: waterfall noise behind dash

Wouldn't the air in the cooling system eventually find it's way back to the overflow bottle inside the engine bay? Obviously that is why the heater needs to be turned on to engage that section of piping in the cooling system...

In the Xtrail QR25DE engine, the coolant does not start to circulate past the thermostat until the cylinder head reaches operating temp so you will need the engine warmed up before you start.
